RailSimulator.com Newsletter - You should sign up for it!

Post by RyanT001 »

Go on RS.C's website and sign up for it for information before it is published on the website  see below :P

"RailSimulator.com is enormously proud to announce the development of the A1 Tornado add-on; officially licensed by The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust." (Source RSC Newsletter!)

Tornado

For those of you who don’t know, the Tornado is the first mainline steam locomotive to be built in Britain for almost 50 years. The vision and determination of the group of people who came together to achieve this feat is remarkable, as is the beauty of the engine they have created.

The Tornado travels around the country and generates a massively positive reaction wherever it goes. See http://www.a1steam.com for more details on this wonderful machine.

On a bright September morning Tom and Derek from the development team set off for a secret location in South East London where the Tornado was waiting for us. With the kind assistance of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, we were given private access to crawl/climb all over the locomotive to gather pictures from as many angles as possible.

Not only did we have access to the locomotives but we also had the chance to talk to Peter Neesam, one of the Tornado's engineers who has worked on the project for 7 years. His enthusiasm for the engine and project was clear as he chatted about its history and modern day mainline life. All reference material has now been passed onto the model builders with the view to a December release.

New RailWorks Features

As we emphasized when we released RailWorks, we envisaged it as a train simulation platform - over time, increasing in features and adapting to new technology.
So, alongside updates to scenario authoring, signal work and core code and graphic improvements we are looking to make use of the capabilities of Steam to provide a way of recording RailWorks achievements and also allow you to compare your performance with your friends and others among the wider community. This enhancement is a little more involved than it might first appear as we have to tweak/improve the scenario system to allow more exact required performance to be specified and then we have the challenge of producing a rational way of evaluating performance against the ideal.
We’d like to thank all of those who provided feedback on these proposed features - we are analysing all of this carefully. the team is already well on their way to implementing the initial version which will be tested over the coming weeks. Expect some exciting and challenging missions to measure your own train driving skills. Visit http://www.railsimulator.com for regular updates!

This information is all from the Newsletter  - Well worth it me thinks

There is news in there. Of course, the Tornado will be payware but it is news all the same because it has been announced in the newsletter. Then there is more news about the proposed "achievements" addition. Just because we had already discussed it on here doesn't mean it isn't news, the newsletter will go out to a damn sight more people than those that use forums. Therefore to them, it is news.

Perhaps the European locomotives are slightly more difficult in the productionmodel.

There is clearly too much steam, and then almost everything is in English.

Well, it's just an English Simulator, you will have to accept it.
A Dutch Koloper will probably never see.

Loco,

Hosting the sheer amount of videos and Pics we put up is just not feasable on our website, and it certainly is not designed for the tit bits that come with twitter or blogs.
They are all in big links from our website, hardly difficult to track, just think of them as an extension of our website.

regards

Derek

yes it is. but the only thing we can do in this situation is to build our own world, with more selfmade buildings/locos from other countrys.
most people here do this actually.

The splitting up of information channels is a good thing in my view. Their twitter page really has this typical small bits of surrogates of information that are usual in this channel. Getting free hosting for videos and pictures is certainly a good idea for a small company, and we all prefer the money to be spent on biscuits rather than webhosting fees. Also, in Youtube, you might get some public exposure which will promote the product, which is good for all of us.

Regarding the newsletter, as said above, the only news that is not a payware ad is the bit about the achievements "coming soon". Well, we were comforted with a statement that this is planning for the far future and does not distract forces which could help in fixing the core problems. Now they say that they are carefully analysing our input. At the same time, they are already testing the initial version. Well, let's say that I am not made for the game industry. Hopefully, they implement a feature to disqualify all the people who violate elementary rules like that one: If you pass a signal that is clear for the opposite direction, you must apply the emergency brakes and call the dispatcher (and send someone into the direction of the expected train soon to crash into yours).

i hope they put some more scenarios with the tornado pack, I will go ballistic if it only has 1 free roam scenario with it, it will be such a great add on, but we need some pretty darn good scenarios to unleash the full fury of tornado in full flight!

please do as good a job as you did with the hall! (INCLUDING THE SOUNDS!)

It might be that it is just easier to research the trains in the UK or US, Euro trains companies might not be happy about letting people go in, walk around their train yards, taking photos of the trains and cabs, recording the sounds etc. It might also be finding the right company with a perticular train that they want to research, you never know. I would personally like more varirty of trains if im honest but I am happy with anything im production.

Oh and regarding the ICE, their is a ICE train available i I cannot remember where but I have used it and its not to bad.

Can you get the steam on trains to last that long in RW some how?
