It sort of depends on what you like as both are excellent routes.

Thames Mersey is just one big route with lots of activities, both on the DVD and to download. It comes with two versions, a steam version and a modern (diesel era) version.

Burton Derby isnt as big but has some brilliant activities and is, i think, almost mainly steam.

Personally because i like long activities with lots of high speed running, Thames Mersey would be my choice, but ive also got Burton Derby :)

All the modern version does is to remove some overhead gantries. The activities are common to both, so you can run modern activities on the steam version or vice versa. It just looks a bit silly with loco;s with pantographs running on thin aor :) Switching between the two is really easy, just a small batch file to run each time.

I love both of these,the Burton Derby has a lot of nice Steam Era trackside stuff and some nice and challenging Activities,Thames-Mersey is also very good,and has a lot of activities.i play the activity of the limited coal run to London a lot.Also for atmosphere,dont forget both North York Moors CD and Bala Hub,ive only been playing Bala hub for a few days but the route has somre awesome vistas!

Oh and remember train store is essential for Thames Mersey. Use Easytrainstore to run a single activity at a time. Its way too big to have everything unstored. You may also need to copy the tsection.dat file into your global folder again, and make sure textured skies is selected.

Also if youve got Great Eastern swap over the envfiles, makes the route look a million times better :wink: also try some of the scottrax track textures or refmans ones :D

rlmathers wrote: All routes have a .trk file, within this file are identitfied all the weather environments for the route.
Within the Mersey folder locate the mersey.trk and using a unicode text editor eg. Wordpad, Context etc., open mersey.trk file.
All the environment files are listed:

Environment (
SpringClear ( UKsun.env )
SpringRain ( UKrain.env )
SpringSnow ( UKsnow.env )
SummerClear ( UKsun.env )
SummerRain ( UKrain.env )
SummerSnow ( UKsnow.env )
AutumnClear ( UKsun.env )
AutumnRain ( UKrain.env )
AutumnSnow ( UKsnow.env )
WinterClear ( UKsun.env )
WinterRain ( UKrain.env )
WinterSnow ( UKsnow.env )
)

On observation of the above listed environments for AutumnClear we have the file UKsun.env
Locate this file within the ENVFILES folder and open with the text editor.

Find this parameter, near the top of the file:

world_shader ( TexDiff
terrain_texslots ( 1
terrain_texslot ( hitw-bluesky1.ace 1 0 )
)
terrain_uvcalcs ( 1
terrain_uvcalc ( 1 0 0 0 )
)
)

hitw-bluesky1.ace file is the sky weather condition for AutumnClear

To change the sky condition, simply change hitw-bluesky1.ace for the weather ace file of your choice from the ENVFILE/TEXTURES folder.

Please note that the next time you use Kosmos the weather file above will be reset to your Kosmos selction.
If you want it as a weather selection within Kosmos you will have to identify the autumnclear weather file(s) within Kosmos, adding or replace the file and rename to the Kosmos convention.

Kindest regards
Ray
