The longest train journey i recall being on was London Euston to Maybole via either Glasgow or Kilmarnock. (When London trains went to Stanraer circa mid 80s) Not sure as i was about 6 at the time. If i recall correctly it took about 9 hours.

I don't know if this is a bit of a cheat but the whole journey was from Wilmslow (Cheshire) to Royal (no less) Tunbridge Wells via Euston and Charring X in the mid 1960s

I was only a little kid at the time, I have no idea what the engine was other than it was steam because I remember watching them hook the engine up somewhere and I remember how petrified I was at the huge gap between the platform and that tiny piece of wood they called a step on the carriage. It was a long way down to the ground from the platform edge and it was very dark and probably full of monsters.

I also remember that this was before continuously welded track so there was a lot of clickety clack and of course Euston tube station was not in the same building as Euston mainline so you had to run across Euston Square to get to the tube which is on the black line and very deep underground. Running down the up escalator was always fun and a good way to tire your kids out. . apparently.

Tunbridge Wells Station had a tunnel at one end of the platform and it was always eerie to hear a train coming through from the far and and the mist it pushed out of the tunnel in front of it. I know those trains were 3rd rail electric because Dad kept going on about not touching it.

(At the time this was long for me!)

Leeds - New Street, back in the BR era, and just before Virgin took over on the XC route!!

And then the second one was probably York - Bournemouth!
