New DT release.

Post by kingsgate »

If you pop over to our site in the next half hour or so, you'll find our 2P 4-4-0 up and for sale. This loco aliases the inbuilt 7F cab, which is of the correct Fowler design for the loco in question. This loco has a few new features, too. A headboard that can be turned on/off in edit mode, and a fully working 4-lamp headcode system, again, changable in edit mode. A neat little loco, with three scenarios for the S&D (Requiring no other add-ons), and attractively priced at £3.50.

I did state it aliased the inbuilt 7F cab. Given that the 7F and 2P had the same cab, we didn't see the need to build a new one.

Excellent work DT - nice modelling including inside valve gear, and the configurable headboard/lamps is a great feature that I hope will become a standard.

Couple of things though:

The model is quite dark in anything other than direct sunlight, especially by comparison with the default locos. I recall this was an issue with Sly's 8F. I'm sure the black livery is the right hue, but it doesn't look quite right in game.

The Pines Express scenario might work better with the Black 5 rather than the 2P as driver loco as I seem to recall that RW simply multiplies the driver loco TE by 2. Having the 2P as driver loco means you get an underpowered train which struggles with 8 coaches as opposed to the real life 12 coach formation.

For anyone wanting to recreate the Pines Express using DT Mk1s here is a typical 1950's summer formation for the Bournemouth-bound train:
2P-WC-SK-BSK-CK-BSK-CK-BSK-CO-Rest-SO-SK-K-BCK. Total 12 coaches.

Note that this was a top-link Midland region formation and thus the Pines coaches appeared in blood and custard or after 1957 in maroon, but not Southern Region green!

Yes, it's a very nice model, but I agree, it does look jet black in almost all lighting. I suspect it would look right in RS but with the new lighting in RW I think it needs to be a lighter shade. I also noticed is that the lamps don't seem to light, but I may need to play with the configuration.

Also, is anybody else getting a constant very loud hissing sound from the 2P (it sounds something like the default sound when the boiler is being refilled)? It is drowning the other sounds out and is very loud and constant (from inside and outside views and is even very loud in the passenger view on the Pines Express scenario, which is 7 coaches back).

Wouldn't it be lovely to have the DT Mk 1s in blood and custard (sorry, carmine and cream) livery and for that matter a full set of MK 1 variants. Fingers crossed for the future!

Good work though DT, another lovely model, and (in my opinion) very reasonably priced too.

Looks great - our first non RW RW payware add-on :)

Apologies for the threadjack, but can any of the UK members explain the VAT issue. Why in general is VAT not included in the price displayed for goods? If it is anything like our GST, you can not avoid it, therefore why show prices ex VAT? I am trying to plan a trip to the UK next year, you find a good hotel or car hire quote and then find that it doesnt include the VAT. When these sort of things can only be consumed within the UK, it seems ludicrous to not show a in total price.

Threadjack over :)

Hi, tax not included is probably because not every country has the same tax rate. It also means the company gets a fixed amount from each sale no matter where in the world it is sold, rather than having to alter the prices for each country to match the local tax `cut`.

Hope this is correct

Nice loco and (as a critic of the amount being charged for some RS/RW addons) very well priced which should ensure it sells by the bucketload!

Hi,

Thanks Digital Traction for a new Loco, at reasonable cost.

The quality of the Loco is suberb and a joy to drive.

To throw a little cold water over the Parade, :(
Yes, it's a very nice model, but I agree, it does look jet black in almost all lighting.
I agree the Loco is very Dark, especially under Cloudy Skies and could do with a lighter shade of Black to enable you to appreciate all the 'detail' work on the Loco.
Also, is anybody else getting a constant very loud hissing sound from the 2P (it sounds something like the default sound when the boiler is being refilled)? It is drowning the other sounds out and is very loud and constant
Yes I agree, the sound, which is extremely annoying, and is I believe, the Safety Valves escaping Steam sound (even when the Pressure is not at Maximum). There does seem to be something little wrong with the 'Physics' of the Loco, as it is at Maximum Steam pressure for the majority of the time even when you work it hard. :-?

But these are just 'teething' troubles that I'm sure DT will address (given time) as soon as they can and will issue a 'Patch' to rectify these problems (as they have with previous Rolling Stock irregularities).

I think it's a cracking loco and is brilliantly priced so many thanks to DT. Interestingly though the darkness of the loco never caught my attention until it was mentioned in the thread, I suppose it could be slightly lighter but i'm not fussed either way. I am a little miffed, however, at the missing texture warnings down both sides of the loco frame. I installed the loco in the usual way (i've installed plenty of things into RW) so i'm at a bit of a loss, especially as no one else has reported this.
