On the weekend of Friday 14th, Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th August, the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry hosted the Great Garratt Gathering, an event bringing together many things associated with Garratt, Beyer Peacock and other things.
The guestlist consisted of:

2) The Bressingham Steam Museum's 0-4-0+0-4-0 William Francis
3) The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway's Lancashire and Yorkshire 0-6-0 'Ironclad' 957
4) The Foxfield Railway's Beyer Peacock 0-4-0 saddletank number 1 (shunter at the Beyer Peacock Works at Gorton)
5) The East Lancashire Railway's Hymek diesel D7076
6) The National Tramway Museum's (Crich) Steam Tram Engine number. 47 (alias Beyer Peacock Works Shunter number 2)
The usual MOSI exhibits included:
1) The replica Liverpool and Manchester 0-2-2 Planet
2) GL Class Beyer-Garratt 4-8-2+2-8-4 number 2352
3) The Vulcan Foundry's 4-4-0 number 30644
4) Metropolitain/Vickers EM2 (Class 77) 27001 Ariadne
Plus, there were many examples of Garratts ranging in all shapes and sizes. Train rides, a goods train, model railways and a variety of other attractions made for a great event.

Thanks very much sir. I was on the first of 957's afternoon passenger turns, and may have been one of the first customers on the footplate while it was getting steam up earlier in the day!davidaward wrote:Soem nice pics and videos there David. Thanks again, and I hope you weren't too exhausted from that grand weekend.

Re: The Great Garratt Gathering (MOSI - 15/08/09)
It wasnt much the long hours on the weekend but all the work leading up to it- long days to get locos unloaded after hours etc.......all worthwhile in the end.
Work is still on-going, and by no means over yet- got rid if the Hymek yesterday, and all being well 1827 and William Francis are off tomorrow, wish we could keep them. But ho hum by this time next year Agecroft will be in steam and a few more visiting locos have been- the Director is thrilled with the event's takings and feelgood atmosphere...........so it will be an annual event!!! Different theme next year so lets see what appears........
