Bedford Hitchin Branch

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Hi there,

Many many thanks for this, however, while it has improved operation in my other routes, the Bedford Hitchin still seems to find great lark in hideous garbled bleeping. I tried to pump up the numbers detailed above to 1024 and still no change. When exiting the program it reveals on Task Manager it's only using about 666MB running the route. Maybe I have a possession problem! :o

Hi PPMM55,
Sorry you're having such problems :(
I also have a laptop which has an Intel i3 processor, but with 4GB memory; Operating System is Windows Home Premium 64 bit. I don't normally use this PC for MSTS, but reading of your troubles, I thought I'd set it up for a test with this route. I have to report that the sounds are all working correctly, even with the original MSTS soundcfg.dat file and without the mem switch. It seems strange that the default routes work OK - do you have any other routes installed, Community or payware? If so, here comes another question (sorry!) - have you tried running with Train Store?

Cheers,
Ged

Hi there, Slipperman - I have many different routes installed:
Westvale
Ashburton
Looe
Kingsbridge
Watersnake
Sea View
MR to Carlisle
Highworth
And the Foxfield branch.

All of these are fine - as a matter of fact I've run the entire length of MR to Carlisle without a single problem.

Just tried running with Trainstore and at first it was wonderful - then the train started moving. No bleeping, but suddenly I had a series of colours on my screen, followed by a freeze, followed by nothing.

This is getting to be quite a frustrating mystery

Hi PPMM55,
Thanks for the info.
I don't know the sizes of the Looe, Foxfield and Sea View routes, but of the others you listed, MR to Carlisle is the largest at 453MB (just the route folder, without stock). Bedford to Hitchin is 630MB.
suddenly I had a series of colours on my screen, followed by a freeze, followed by nothing.
This makes me think it could be a memory problem - Mark has already suggested this in an earlier post. It's obviously not a shortage, so could be corruption in the higher positions, which are not used by other routes. It may be worthwhile running a memory checker - I've not tried it, but one which runs under Windows 7 is available here : http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html ; an old favourite, which runs outside of Windows (from a boot CD) is here : http://www.memtest86.com/

Cheers,

Hi, The other culprit for this sort of problem is overheating usually caused by a blocked or faulty coooling fan, so definitely worth getting checked out. Uninstalling & then reinstalling video driver would be a good idea first though, to make sure it hasn't been damaged by the crashes.

Hi there, thanks - I shall get a can of compressed air and try that. I thank you for your continued assistance, very much appreciated!
