The computer I was using happily to build the Chiltern line blew up on me and I have just recently replaced it with a new and more powerful one. I am sure everyone knows how difficult it is to get a new computer up to speed and into a similar configuration of software that you felt comfortable with on the old one. My problem in particular is that having installed TSTools on the new computer it won't start but gives me the error message "Unable to start the application - the Java virtual machine cannot be loaded. Class not registered". I should mention that although I have a new computer I deliberately chose to downgrade the operating system to Windows XP as I didn't want to add to my problems by using Vista. A search of the forums produced some posts from people who have experienced the same problem and some suggestions as to how to solve it. However, I have had no success so far and wonder whether someone out that has a foolproof and blow-by-blow account of a method to get TSTools up and running. I am absolutely dependent on it, particularly for adding new markers into the route.

Hi docmartin, just a thought but have you installed java runtime as the ts tools seems to be calling for it.

A good thought but alas no help. I have tried installing Java Runtime as downloaded from Sun systems and also msjavx86-5.0.3810.0 and then uninstalling and reinstalling TSTools but I still get the same error message.

The good news is that we had the same problem... and solved it.

The bad news is i can't remember how we did it.

We will keep thinking... But it was stuff like Java and .net and stuff, then there was something on the Aero forums or somewhere that helped too... It was quite basic in the end, but not something you would think of (or rememember).

It just so happens I was using TSTools a couple of months back and had the same java problem. Whether by good luck or good guidance I managed to find the correct java file to get things working. If you drop me an email to cobos1968 at btopenworld dot com, I'll send it over to you. File is approx 5mb.

Download from Microsoft, msjavx86.exe and install to your system.

Hi docmartin.
Just found your message.
Remove tstools 2 from your system including folders.
Then remove all reference to java and sun systems in the registry by repeating F3 and delete.
Re-boot the system and reinstal the latest java.
Re-install TsTools 2.
Also make sure you are useing the tsection 38.
One of the problems is java updates itself on a regular basis (can be configured) and builds up quite a backlog of files.
Many have been there before so let us know how you progress.

Thanks for your post, Buckeye. Actually, however, I didn't need to go through all those steps (which believe it or not I had already discovered through doing a search before I posted my first message!). The secret was to find the latest version of the java file, so in a way John was right, though msjavx86.exe didn't work for me. Cobos kindly provided me with Java for Vista (when I ordered my new machine, I opted for Vista downgraded to XP Professional as the OS and so wouldn't have thought of looking for a Vista version of Java) and this worked like a charm. I didn't even have to uninstall and reinstall TSTools. Anyway, thanks everyone for taking an interest in my problem which happily is now resolved.
