I regard it useful to keep RS on the harddisk. So I can install stuff which comes without a rpk or rwp file (e.g. the US folks seem to like routesetup.exe more than the packager files). So I can package them by myself and install them via RW. By the way I have a backup of my assets.

Just in case someone really runs out of space and cannot fix the situation by removing a few movies or song collections from the disk, I would by a new one and add it to the setup.
Like others said, there is quite some chance that you will download something that is not prepared for RW. And you might want to try something out in KRS to compare. Or you might at some point copy over old assets which were modified for RW (like some plants) and add them under a new name to your RW installation. There are many things you can do with your old installation, and there is no real reason for me to make room on your harddisk.
