Graphic Card Advice

Post by ABABAB »

Hi all

I am going to purchase Railworks wondered if anyone can advise me.
I have: Pentium 4 3.0 processor
2 GB of SD RAM
Windows XP HOME
ATI Radeon X1950 PRO AGP

If I put a HD 3850 AGP in place of X1950 PRO AGP, will I see much improvement or will processor bottle neck any gain in performance, if there is any.

Cheers

I believe it is probably already a bottleneck with what you have. I had a p2.8Ghz northward cpu with a ati800pro and went to a ati 800xtpe and didnt see much of a improvement with Trainz ( TRS2006 ) a number of years ago. I would save your money for a more full pc upgrade latter.

ATI Radeon X1950 PRO AGP
Im using that card in a Core2Duo 2GHZ machine with 2GB of ram and it runs RW fine. Maximum frame rate is 14fps but there seems very little stutter. Stick with it i'd say

In RS, I had a similar setup to you and was using and ATI1950Pro 512Mb AGP and upgraded to a 3850Pro 512Mb and the difference was about 5fps on average.

I'd be inclined to go with John's suggestion.
