Do not forget the official keeper of the biscuits, that would make nine.

Well I would love that job, but I'd get fired for eating all the biscuits. "I'll try one, hmmmm that was tasty, let me try another...Yummy, that was tasty, let me try another..."Acorncomputer wrote:Do not forget the official keeper of the biscuits.

Re: RS.com's new hire?
Maybe that's the way I could get in. Too old to hack day and night, but my wife makes great cakes, and they are well tried to kick meetings into the right direction. But she refuses to move to the UK. So, it's the dole for me then ...

Not such a bad guess. Some of the old MSTS2 team were available suddenly.

Re: RS.com's new hire?
I just hope they have employed someone who can make the 'simulation' fulfill it's potential. It is about 'direction'. That is what 'directors' do. Perhaps the mods can start a poll about whether we want a game or a simulation? On the one hand, there are a lot of people still developing on an ancient platform....
That is a big market.

Re: RS.com's new hire?
If theres 8 full time employees the RW gets over 290 hours of attention in every week. Thats quite much compared to my free time reserves. What comes to simulators I have visited in Finlands leading educational simulator manufacturer. They equip their simulators with motion platform, realistic controls and physics making their simulator world class. What their software lacks is game side, its actually intented only for education and after 4 initial hours simulators starts to feel like real work and fun factor decreases. This feeling might sound delicious on train environment but it will only appeal to very narrow area of customers. In future I hope RW can give something for gamers and something for simulator hobbyists alike.

Re: RS.com's new hire?
Any guess of their areas of responsibility? I have been still thinking about the economical model for RSC. In order to keep the things rolling they need more income to keep bigger team happy. They cannot ask more money from RW users in near future so they have to concentrate on making addons, I bet this new member of RSC team will be doing more locomotives and routes since its easier profit for the team than programming completely new stuff. This doesn't mean that the additional feature development would be in danger, I think they are securing their finances by doing that in order to sustain not so profitable programmers. Perhaps they could keep core updates for free and ask money from fresh rolling stock and routes utilizing these new features from the beginning.

Re: RS.com's new hire?
Googling some of the names can help w/ some speculation. The name "Charles McMicking" and the phrase Funds4games" appears at least once so perhaps he is part of that. The name "Gray Poyda" and the phrase "Railsimularity" appears at least once so perhaps Gray has hand in that. There is a Miss Gillian Simpson, computer programmer, in Linked-in so perhaps that is who G. Simpson is. The name "Duncan Best" and the phrase "computer games" brings up a number of items also but it's hard to draw any conclusion other than someone named Duncan Best has played a role in the UK game industry.
At any rate, it doesn't make much difference what these folks do... but only that they do well whatever they were hired to do.

I also wondered whether this thread evolves into "Let's hire someone from RS.com".GenmaSaotome wrote:At any rate, it doesn't make much difference what these folks do... but only that they do well whatever they were hired to do.
As a customer, and as a developer, you can only hope that they get their priorities set in a way that matches your owns -- which is a different thing for everyone -- and observe the outcome.

I've heard rumblings that the new hire is called Janice, and makes a cracking brew!

Heresy! To the Draughty Tower with him!We certainly are happy to work with many from here, however the world is bigger than this or the US forum.
A few months, well shackled, with the wind whistling through, should clear his mind on that subject!
Cheers Dr Frankenstein.
PS Igor says, 'yoohoo' to all his chums out there, and, 'do drop in soon, for links'.
PPS I think he means 'lunch' but that accent....oy!
