PC Shut down

Post by Buckeye »

Hi all
I've searched all the topics and found no answer to my present problem.
My dated MSTS disc number one lost some silver, so a replacement was acquired from ebay.
MSTS installs OK and I replaced the global. I used only one route eventually after several attempts to run.
Came across the same problem in the forum without an answer.
PROBLEM: MSTS starts and enters initial page with track. After loading the PC reboots.
I'm not expecting any quick solutions so I'm going to try for another MSTS disc.

Hi There,

Did you delete the original Global Folder or did you back it up so that you can replace it if needed.

Did it work before you changed the Global Folder.

Hi Mickrick
I Always have a recent backup of the Global.
I just overwrote the old with the new, maybe I should have deleted it first?
Thanks for the prompt reply

Hi Buckeye,

If you have a seperate hard drive, You could always install msts into that location and de-activate the start up files. Then you wll have a complete set of default backups.

Just an Idea

Hi Mickrick.
Yes tried that one.
I have three drives in all but have full backups.
I'm going to delete the global and replace with new and see.
I'm then going for a walk.

Hi Mickrick
The last attempt didn't work either.
Also tried replacing the .exe with one from a total backup.
Thanks for assisting.

Are you sure it's a faulty MSTS installation that's causing it? A faulty MSTS installation might freeze the machine but it's unlikely to make it reboot. In my experience, rebooting has been caused by an overloaded and overheating hardware component

Hi
My original thoughts, so I dropped back from a 2.4 to a 1.9 cpu but just the same.
Other games work fine like Motogp 3, even Rail Simulator (sorry)
Will let you know.
Thanks

Can you monitor the temperature on your GPU? That's what was doing me in.

Hi
Yes its about 65c at the moment.
All other graphic intensive programs work fine.
MSTS has been running with this card for several weeks.

Did you run Train Simulator Troubleshooter? (in the start menu)

If it's got buffers it's Chain.

Hi all
Made some progress.
Had a similar shut down when I tried to play a video on PowerDVD.
I linked it to the audio tab on the diagnostics.
Uninstalled Sound Blaster and DVD played OK.
Will try MSTS tomorrow.
