There was an error in the tender for 800 (Sir Meleaus de Lile) which I've now corrected - will update the new one as Version 2. In addition here is 799 Sir Ironside to go with it..........

mmm! looks great! a much appreciated addition. texture looks just right, not too black as I think it is easy to over saturate. fine lettering too.
There is still a need for an S15. But I guess it is a fair bit of work because the smaller wheels may need the valve gear resetting. Just a gentle hint, if you ever run out of projects! Thanks again Danny

I normaly stick to BR Green Loco's for passenger trains,but these 2 KA's have changed my mind,I can use them with the New B&C MK1 coaches. A pity BATS never bought out some B&C Bullieds coaches.

Michael, 800 was never painted in Malachite Green. It was kept in Black from Feb 1945 until November 1949 when it was renumbered to 30800 and painted in Brunswick Green. This means it was still running in Black with it's Southern number when all the other KA's were either in Malachite or Brunswick and most had been renumbered. 799 was repainted in Malachite in Jan 1947 and renumbered in May 1948.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone, it's good to know that steam models are still appreciated.

Incidentally, I've made a start on the S15. Having seen photos of them heading passenger services, I know they weren't exclusively used for freight. However does anyone know if any of them were ever painted in the lined "Mixed Traffic" livery - or were they always finished in non-lined black?

Dee, after looking at a book, Southern steam locomotive survery - The Urie Classes. No images of the S15s in lined black as they were a freight loco, though plenty of images of H15s in lined black.

Thanks for that wba2uk, it confirms what I've found. It's a pity really as the lined black is such a nice looking livery.

Thanks for showing these Alan - it confirms what we've been thinking. Your pics of the Urie versions will be most useful, as I've been trying to find a side-on view of the stepped running plate (if that's the right term). I need to decide if - compared to the KA - the plate steps down or up!!
Incidentally, I've never seen smoke deflectors like those on 30496.

Thanks Danny - glad they will be useful.

As for 30496, it looks like the lower parts of the smoke deflectors have been removed. Compare them with the photo of 30514, and you can clearly see the riveted overlap between the two parts.
