Re: Railworks screenshots
just wondering if German railroads are doing the 2nd german route. I know it is supposed to be fictional, but does it remind anyone of Moselbahn?

Re: Railworks screenshots
I believe one of the 3rd party tools (RSTools rings a bell - not got it on the PC I'm on at the moment) has a feature that allows you to modify the LODs, where people have adjusted how far away the various LOD levels change. Even with the highest level of detail though, you'll still get the "blurring" that has been refered to when an object is going in to the distance (further away from your viewpoint) and viewed at an angle.AndyUK wrote:Simon & Derek, simuk wrote: Stock and buildings becoming more detailed as you get closer is LOD, but it's got to be a balance between what looks good and what causes a huge hit on performance - don't do LOD with the lower detailed models and you'll have a real hit on performance as the most detailed version is being displayed when it's simply too far away to see the detail anyway, but it's all having to be rendered in game.
I understand that there have got to be compromises to keep performance up but I wonder what the effect would be if the highest level of detail were displayed say 200 metres further out because at the moment the lower detailed models are being displayed at distances where the lack of detail is noticeable. How feasible would it be to have the 'High Detail View Distance' user adjustable to allow those who can to get better graphics?

Re: Railworks screenshots
Am I right in assuming those trees by the signal will be included in WR?,shame the blurring is still apparent (the last 3 coaches)most of us have graphics cards that would handle LOD's allot further away, can't really see it making that much of a hit on FPS.

Yes you're right RS_Tools_Pro does allow you to alter the LOD. Am I right in thinking then that the distance at which the different LODs are used is a property of the model rather than the RailSim graphics engine?

Re: Railworks screenshots
I adjusted out the lod's using Mike Simpsons tools and it really didn't effect the performance significantly, it is model specific too the worst ones being DT's coaches and the class 25 you have to whack the lods up on them to stop the horrible blurring which occurs very close to the camera, i have an old (now) 8800gtx and performance is acceptable at higher lod's. Be interesting to see in RW's if some fixes have been made to the performance in general? Nice screenies BTW.

Re: Railworks screenshots
the latest screenshot looks excellent! just wondering though, will lights that project a beam of light feature in railworks i wonder? obviously for general modern UK routes it's not needed, but my local route i'm building used Acetylene lamps to light the route ahead of the locomotive.

Re: Railworks screenshots
Surely the Deltic, in 1960s colours and condition, shouldn't have the 1970s sealed beam marker lights? Especially as they've gone to the trouble of glazing the headcode box...pity, really.

Re: Railworks screenshots
Aye, you are right, the headcode boys need to pull their socks up.
The way we got the nameplates working on the deltic over a year ago will interfere with the new way we have done the headcodes.
We will be able to do the deltic headcodes/nameplates too, but it required some thinking about and time spent on the model which is sat in the 'would be nice' section instead of the 'must have' section.
These are the tough calls i need to make, and each one hurts.
best regards
Derek

The shadows are different now. More softly. Is that truth?

Re: Railworks screenshots
Its certainly no where near as dark as it was in RS. In my opinion looks much softer and better.

Re: Railworks screenshots
I hope sharp stencil shadows are there even more darker in bright sunny weather otherwise we are on route to cartoonish graphics. If you look outside in sunny day the shadows are indeed very sharp and dark plus blue sky makes everything in shadow side appear to have blueish tint. Really the softness of shadows is only depending on amount of clouds in sky.
