Re: Railworks screenshots
Is that white clag above the Deltic, or just clouds?

Re: Railworks screenshots
Looking at it's positioning and general cone above the Deltic and the fact that all the other clouds in the sky are grey, my guess is white clag.Neptune50006 wrote:Is that white clag above the Deltic, or just clouds?
I have to ask, being a steam guy and not really driving the modern routes much (and frankly not getting my head out of modelling and blueprinting for months anyway!), do the default RS1 signal posts have as much detailing as that one in the picture? Seems a lot going on with the box at the back and wires and such, or are they already like that and I just haven't looked
Re: Railworks screenshots
You had me thinking there about those signal wires but I have just gone in game and they were there. Also, that definetely looks like white clag to me, if correct, another nice little touch.

Re: Railworks screenshots
I asked some while back on an old post does anyone else get this blurring. I am not sure if its fixable or not. Tho i guess the further back the view is the more the pixels struggle.

Google "MIP bias" (I would explain but I only know the very basics)TheTazman wrote:I asked some while back on an old post does anyone else get this blurring. I am not sure if its fixable or not. Tho i guess the further back the view is the more the pixels struggle.

It seems that the sky looks better than the 1st RS.

Re: Railworks screenshots
I don't remember seeing your other post, but yes it happens for me as well. I thought it was something to do with the way RailSim handles LOD. It's quite distracting because it's particularly noticeable on AI traffic coming towards you, each piece of stock seems to suddenly 'pop into focus' as it gets nearer. Now I've seen it on a promotional screen shot from the developers I doubt that it's a problem confined to a few of us!TheTazman wrote:I asked some while back on an old post does anyone else get this blurring. Re: Railworks screenshots
Stock and buildings becoming more detailed as you get closer is LOD, but it's got to be a balance between what looks good and what causes a huge hit on performance - don't do LOD with the lower detailed models and you'll have a real hit on performance as the most detailed version is being displayed when it's simply too far away to see the detail anyway, but it's all having to be rendered in game.AndyUK wrote:I don't remember seeing your other post, but yes it happens for me as well. Re: Railworks screenshots
Hi,
It's a mixture of mip lods and anistropic filtering. Turning it up makes everything much crisper but of course there is a hit on performance.
My pc (from which I am playing, testing and taking the shots) is set to medium values of anistropic filtering and antialising.
regards
Derek

I understand that there have got to be compromises to keep performance up but I wonder what the effect would be if the highest level of detail were displayed say 200 metres further out because at the moment the lower detailed models are being displayed at distances where the lack of detail is noticeable. How feasible would it be to have the 'High Detail View Distance' user adjustable to allow those who can to get better graphics?
