Newbies first attempt

Post by Austcoop »

Hello all.

I'm a complete newbie to all of this, so please be gentle! I've only had Rail Simulator a fortnight and can't believe that i didn't think of purchasing it before. I was always a total BVE4 convert, but this has opened my eyes completely. Anyway, after a lot of fiddling around and pressing of buttons, i decided to give route making a whirl. I decided to have a crack at the Railway modellers' favourite;, Buxton. Compact, interesting and hopefully a relatively easy start to the world of route building. Still lots and lots of work to do, but comments are more than welcome.

Pic 2: As above

Pic 3: TMD from what will be the end of the platform.

Pic 4: Lightwood Road area. Nearest bridge carries the route to Stockport, second bridge the route to Briggs sidings and furthest, the route to Peak Forest.

Pic 5: Buxton Yard. On the site of part of the old Steam depot. Allows trains from Briggs to access the line to Peak Forest and visa versa.

Pic 6: Viaduct on the Briggs line over the town centre. LOTS of work still to do! IE, no town centre as yet and terrain needs adjusting.

All scenery assets will be stock items, or downloaded ones. My skills don't reach as far as bespoke items yet! This is my first attempt, in any program, at building a route, so it wont be 100% accurate!

A fortnight? Lies!! :)

That's a really good start mate, you've taken to the editor very quickly indeed. Look forward to seeing more.

Hi,

Cracking start there, I can recognise the area easily from your pics. I made a start on Millers Dale towards Buxton a while back but couldn't get into it!

Keep it up 8)

Kind Regards

Hi James, RS is certainly a different tool to get accustomed to but worth the time investment. It looks like you've already got a good understanding of track laying, which involves getting to know all the little tricks needed. Good luck with it. I hope you enjoy the build.
