EMT apply to run Sheffield - London every half hour
Apparently that’s what EMT is talking to the ORR about:

I'd assume they would be looking to extend the hourly Derby - London services. This would ease over crowding on the 5 coach sets that they use on some services and allow 7 coach Meridians to be transferred to the Nottingham slows.
What does everybody else think?
Cheers,
Ali

I just want EMT to put more carriages on the Liverpool - Norwich services. Maybe thats where we could do with some of those 5-car Meridians as they can do the route...

Where do you propose the 'extra carriages' come from Alex?

Stop using it as a local service between Warrington/Liverpool/Widnes/Manchester and watch part of the problem disappear.

I went up to Liverpool today and crossed with a Liverpool - Norwich service at Runcorn.
It was a four car unit, the front two being South West Trains and the back two East Midlands.
South West?

I suppose you mean Widnes unless there was a line issue i dont know about.oldrocker wrote:I went up to Liverpool today and crossed with a Liverpool - Norwich service at Runcorn.

And yea, some SWT 158s are running to increase space for EMT.
As for the extra carriages, they managed to get some 222s on test, i dont mean replace ALL the diagrams with 222s, just replace a 2-car 158 sometime.

Yeah, they're owned by the same company (Stagecoach) and they've loaned them the 158s to increase capacity.oldrocker wrote:I went up to Liverpool today and crossed with a Liverpool - Norwich service at Runcorn.

To be honest I don't think EMT try hard enough for extra stock, FGW, Northern and LM are all examples of TOC's that are actively campaigning hard either to retain existing stock or obtain extra stock. Why haven't I read about EMT doing the same thing? What about hiring a pair of 67's and 4 MK2's, this would release 2 spare units. Or even using a single 4 coach Meridian on the Norwich - Liverpool route would free up 2 more units.
I'm tired of them saying "its not our fault we we're given the wrong figures" they were given the figures nearly 2 years ago. Even with the wrong figures they could have asked any member of station or train staff between Liverpool and Norwich if 2 coach 158's would have been enough and they all would have said no. Even I could have told them 2 coach 158's won't be enough on the peaktime trains. The route has huge potential for growth; particularly that west of Nottingham, Northern has already proved this with their new Nottingham -> Leeds service.
Or why don't they cut all the padding out of their timetables, I hate to think how many unit hours are wasted each day due to them coving their behinds.
Cheers,
Ali

Re: EMT apply to run Sheffield - London every half hour
But what about those extra 8 158s and about 6 (IIRC) 153s sat out of service at Eastleigh?? I can't remember as to whether they were taken on by another company or not, but they would be ideal as EMT run both 158 and 153s already so there would be no need for driver training etc etc. Its also not as if EMT can use the Ex Hull 222/1s when they come into service, to cover the Liverpool Norwich services, as they are going to be used on the Corby London services, so for now its check mate for EMT, they just need more stock. They could have worked something out for extra HST sets to work the mainline, therefore freeing up some more 222/0s for use elsewhere, but I don't think there are hardly any spare HSTs around now are there? There were a number sat down at Minehead on the WSR but they got taken for GC (?) I believe. They could have also looked at 180s but again I don't think there are that many around now are there as they got snapped up by other TOCS.
