File Hosting and Testing

Post by mickrik »

Hi there,

I have a bit of a problem.

I have some work which I need to get to another UKTS member some miles away to test. It is too big to e-mail at 19mb. I have been using "Filefront" up to now with good success only it is closing down this weekend (march 30th). This leaves me with no future method of sharing my work for test.

Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can host test files.

When that is used up I go to...

You could also try....

Try:

http://jetbytes.com/

(found via http://lifehacker.com/5181985/jetbytes- ... ia-the-web)

You need to keep your computer on and browser open, and the same for who you're transferring to, but it saves on all the server uploading stuff.

Alternatively, try the fantastic Dropbox, http://www.getdropbox.com/, with 2GB of free storage and the ability to give public links to your public folder.

Matt can provide such a service and has done in the past for several different groups. I will alert him to this thread and talk to him over the weekend about it. You might like to drop him an email with your requirements.

Hi there

well thank gents, that was a lot of replies in such a short time.

I did find a site called "Badongo" and it seems to work ok but the link is a bit tedious to operate for the tester.

It would be good to keep things "in house" so I will drop Matt a line first

once again

many thanks

Mick

No problem Mick.

Just for reference here is where it was discussed by Matt http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... am#p909552
NeutronIC wrote:Just for info, we already offer lots of services to folks that ask - there are a great many projects that host multi gigabyte FTP and Web spaces on the site such as Project Metrolink and MSTSbin; indeed even MakingTracks were using three or four gigs of space for a while to share files between team members before they got their own server space sorted. The servers have hundreds of gigabytes of free disk, there's no problem there :)

I don't advertise it particularly because it's something that takes time to manage and would be yet one more thing that people get disappointed about my slow responses on due to real life commitments. That said, if someone wants or needs it then I can sort it out.

Thanks for the kind words folks, much appreciated by everyone here!

Matt.
