Rascal & Cottonwood Loading Problems

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Rascal & Cottonwood Loading Problems

Post by rml345 »

I have today purchased Rascal & Cottonwood from Just Trains.

When I try to load any of the scenarios I get a run time error and RS shuts down. All my other routes and scenarios run fine and I have the Mk2 upgrade installed. I have tried uninstalling Rascal & Cottonwood and also downloaded it again in case there were problems with the original download and still get the same run time error.

Does anyone know how to resolve this.

I've seen pictures of this route and it looks very good. It's American isn't it? Does it need the US version of Rail Simulator or the Cajon Pass Addon?

,,and Foliage01 Addon from RSDL.

Zitat Manual :
Two extra steps are necessary before installing the Rascal And Cottonwood route itself. Both of these require
a purchase but the sums are minimal.
The first add-on to acquire is RSDL’s Foliaged Pack 1. At a charge of $7 USD, this is a great add-on to have
especially if you plan to build your own routes. It features a wide variety of vegetation that brings the route alive
enhancing the immersion factor of the route. You can purchase this add-on directly from the Rail Simulator website.

The second add-on to acquire is 3dTrains own Rural Landscapes foilage pack. This foliage pack comes in
two varieties and is more focused on trees. The hi-res version, which I highly recommend, is $12.50 USD and is
available from the 3dtrains main product pages. A freeware version, but in lower resolution, is available from
the 3dtrains forum.

Just to clarify I have purchased the Rascal & Cottonwood not the Colton and Northern that is referred to in the above thread.

I also have the Cajon Pass add on, although Just Trains say the necessary assets are included.

I also have the RSDL Foilage pack, although again JT again state that the assests from the RSDL foilage pack are included along with the low res version of the 3DTrains Rural Landscapes.

IIRC, the Just Trains version of the R&C contains our low-res version of our trees (will not overwrite hi-res version though), plus a number of objects otherwise contained in the US Cajon add-on. The author, Rich Garber, had worked out a license agreement with RSDL to include the required assets, but you might drop a note to Just Trains and have them confirm.
Cheers!

Thanks again for the reply. You must have written this while I was responding to the previous messages.

Just Trains state the following on their website:-

The Rascal & Cottonwood route is a fictional representation of a coal-carrying branch line in North America. The route runs for almost 20 miles and is based around the town of Tri-City, the Cottonwood foundry and the Rascal mine. The package features eleven different scenarios, including Free Roam which allows users to travel to any part of the route.

Also included are a version of the excellent 3dtrains Rural Landscapes Foliage Pack add-on and parts of the RSDL Foliage Pack, providing a rich package of many different foliage types with which you can enhance the appearance of the Rascal & Cottonwood line and include in your own routes as well.

The route features a detailed Union Pacific SD40-2 locomotive, 10 USA rolling stock wagons, authentic terrain mapping and track placement, and AI train operations, not to mention spectacular scenery with four towns, a whole landscape of vegetation, rivers, bridges and more!

Eleven scenarios give you tasks to be completed, and one special scenario turns the Rascal & Cottonwood route into your own personal model railway!

Any Rail Simulator rolling stock, including add-ons, can be used on the Rascal & Cottonwood route, and the printed manual includes full route schematics.

To make matters worse I have tried purchasing the hi res version of Rural Landscapes to see if this resolves the problem and I cant do it because the paypal checkout isnt working properly at the moment.

Anyway any help anyone can offer would be appreciated.

Nothing extra is needed - it all comes as part of the pack, we've got the US rollingstock and scenery, the free version of the 3DTrains Rural Landscapes pack, a number of items from the RSDL Foliage Pack 1, and the route itself - and a very clever installer that checks to see what you need and only adds in the things you've not already got.

Not too sure why the original poster is having trouble with it (as we've done a huge amount of testing as with all our products) but I'd imagine something may have been wrong in RS that is core content that is needed for the route, but not sure at this stage. If anyone with problems contacts Support via http://www.justtrains.net/support.asp then we'll be able to investigate properly.

Best wishes,

Thanks for the reply Simon, I have contacted you at support regarding this, I was just suffering the frustration of having purchased something new on my one day off work and not being able to use it. I am relatively new to RS although I am already a big fan of the JT products and hoped I might find a quck fix posting on here.

The route does load in Free Play and free Roam. The run time error occurs whenever I try and run the scenarios.

I decided to uninstall Rascal & Cottonwood followed by Cajon Pass and the RSDL Foilage pack. I then reinstalled Rascal & Cottonwood, Cajon Pass and RSDL Foilage pack in that order and I am pleased to report everything appears to be working correctly.

I am not entirely sure why the above worked but it did.

I will post later on my findings on the route. At first glance it looks very promising.

Thanks to all those who tried to help.

Hi Richard,

If a route runs OK in Free Roam, then any crashes you get when running scenarios is usually caused by missing rolling-stock.

You can download RS_Tools from the file library, and go to Tools\Check Routes and Scenarios. This gives you the option to select a route and scenario and check the scenario for any missing rolling stock.

After running this on each of the scenarios, at least you will know what, if anything, is missing.

I'm not arguing (just explaining why I'm right).

Hi Mike,

I downloaded RS Tools last week so I did check the route with it both prior to and also after fixing the problem.

Interestingly I have the same results on items missing from the route both before resolving the issue and also after:-

C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Assets\3D Trains\NorthAmerica\railnetwork\track\scalerail.bin (Loft Item)
C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Assets\3D Trains\NorthAmerica\railnetwork\track\scalerail.bin (Road item)

There shouldnt be any missing rolling stock because everthing should be installed with the installer supplied by Just Trains.

Like I said in a previous post it now works. Also many thanks for excellent RS Tools Utility.
