Heads Up BBC 1 tonight

Post by AlistairW »

Hi Guys,

Just a heads up that BBC1's inside out show is focusing on Level Crossing Safety at 7:30 tonight, although I can't see the railways or NR fairing very well.

Cheers,
Ali

Should be good. Nothing wrong with the crossings - just how people use them. I'd like to see how the Beeb see's it though.

Is that a national thing or is it only a regional one??

It's regional - but you can watch it on iPlayer.

Tonights program is highlights from the past series. If you saw this segment when it first aired a couple of months ago there is no need to watch it again...unless of course you want to.

Doesn't bode well. People killed at foot crossings are apparently 'innocent victims of the speed of today's trains'. Looks like a totally biased programme...

Well it was of little interest as its made for the general public, generally the argument was they're dangerous, its not the peoples fault (which I'm sure on some occasions it wasn't) and that we need to build bridges instead.

No different to crossing the road, keep your eyes open and you'll be fine.

People can cross the road at any time. With railways, so far as I know, there is always a gate and a red light. Why pedestrians mostly think the red (and green) light means go, I don't know. Give them a rule and they break it.

Is there always a red light?

I seem to recall that around Shugborough (Lichfield), there is a public footpath that crosses the WCML. Pretty much all there was there (mid 90s) was a gate and a sign warning you to check before crossing.

I agree, along the line between Warrington Bank Quay (Low Level) to Fiddlers Ferry are a number of these crossings, and I've always used them fine.

The argument that trains go too fast is stupid, maybe yes for cars around blind corners but remember trains have that Yellow on the front for a reason, for silly people to look for. And its even easier at night as trains have big lights on. Plus, trains usually whistle near crossings too....
