http://www.uktrainsim.com/

is working fine, but

http://uktrainsim.com/

is redirecting to:

http://www.atomic-systems.com/down.html

No biggie but thought it should be mentioned in case this wasn't known.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the pages come on to my screen at the same speed they did. I am using IE8 BETA. Is this normal? :-?
Thanks, Sean.

We if you are seeing lower speeds than expected (and the new servers are much faster from where I am sitting) you will need to provide some diagnostics. Can you perform the checks outlined below please ?
leviathan1949 wrote:OK. The first test we would like to do is a "Trace Route". This test will follow the most logical path from YOUR PC, via YOUR service provider out onto the internet and thence via a number of other servers eventually reaching OUR service provider and OUR server.
Each time the signal reaches a "way point" it will tell you the name of the "way point" AND how long it took to get there.

For those that know the drill, go for it.

For those that need help: (XP or Vista, both the same)
Click START, ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, COMMAND PROMPT - This will bring up a DOS window.
ie a Black background with white text.

At the prompt, type the following:
tracert http://www.uktrainsim.com >uktstest01.txt
and then press the ENTER key.
The cursor should then move to a new line, wait for up to 60 seconds and then the prompt should reappear.

The output from the tracert command has been placed in the file uktest01.txt
If you look at the contents of this file using notepad, you will see the format.

What we would like you to do is to carry out this test THREE times over half an hour. Note the time of each test run.
When you do the second run, change the file to uktest02.txt
On the third run, change the file to uktest03.txt

When you have all three files, please email them to support AT uktrainsim DOT com.
Please include your location, who your service provider is and your connection speed.

Eg
Three tests at 15:24, 15:45 and 15:52 from Brisbane, Australia using Optusnet, Broadband 4Mb/s
OR
Three tests at 09:21, 09:33 and 09:50 from Lincoln, UK via Virginmedia, Broadband 20Mb/s

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Kindest regards

Download speeds are still very impressive :) Ive downloaded two files this morning (174MB in total) at 2.37MB/s Both downloads took a little over one minute to complete which is nothing short of amazing :) Ive have found though that web page prsentation isnt hugely quicker, although it has improved a little. The forum is very fast now :)

Hi,
I'm not finding that, everything much faster. :multi:

Thanks Matt for what must have been a long Weekend (+ a couple days) for you. Setting everything up, Testing and Changing over Servers for us must have been a bit of a nightmare at times, but the Change-over has gone very smoothly, as always.

The 'spare' time you, your family and others give up to Improve, Maintain and Promote UKTS is very much appreciated.

Well Done to you All.

Just a small thing :)

From the home page under the login section, if you click the link to the alternative URL, that no longer works.

The system test doesnt seem to be updating, but maybe thats not functional yet.

Rob, thanks for that - i'll check and fix the uktrainsim.com lookup when I get home tonight.

Laurie: ah yes someone reported that earlier I think and I totally forgot - i'll remove it, it won't go through the firewall now anyway.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, glad you're enjoying it - it was hard work particularly when on sunday night I realised that none of the .NET code (CD Ordering, Download Server, Album FTP Server, server monitor) was going to work without edits and rebuilds and buying another $200 updated database driver for MySQL with .NET. Ah well, it's all done now!

I've not tried the site with IE8 so no idea if it will work any faster on that, all I know is that it comes up faster for me in both IE7 and Chrome both at home (20mb/s) and work (2mb/s).

I am going to spend some time next working on a replacement for the download server so that we can finally do away with these blasted crashes all the time.

Again, if you find anything else not working (anything at all!) please shout, it's all much appreciated.

News from an IE8 user:

Basically, I'm finding the same things as Laurie. Forums much faster, site presentation reasonably quick. The only thing is I have been testing the new speed by downloading the Northern Line route (approx 75 MB) and the max speed I'm getting is only, on average, 110 KB/s, meaning that the download takes about 10 minutes. Is this site-related or could it be a connection at my end?

When I run uktrainsim in compatability mode in IE8, the links on the main site load quicker than they do in standard IE8.
Regards.

Ive just downloaded it :) took 33 seconds at 2.27MB/s It might be worth doing a tracert as John has suggested above to see if there is a bottleneck somewhere.
