BR Black King Arthur

Post by michaelhendle »

HI Dee,

Those screen shots Kieran has put up are supurb, the King Arthur certainly looks good in Southern Black I presume it was a wartime repaint, and it's well suited to the docks at Southampton.

Are you planing to release it in the near future,I have always thought your steam loco's are first class, infact I have down loaded nearly all your latest releases, and look forward to down loading some more when yyou make them.

It was the original intention to upload Michael, but despite Kieran posting his excellent screenshots last week there seems to little or no interest. It's not that I was expecting loads of comments because there never has been, but when over 200 people can view a set of screenshots without even posting an acknowledgement, it puts the demand for steam models into perspective. So I'm really wondering whether it's worth it.

I particularly wanted to make this model because of it's history. I have a photograph of it waiting to leave Cannon Street with a passenger service to Ashford. The date is May 1949 and it is still carrying Bulleid Black livery - even though Nationalisation had occured 17 months earlier. Checking further I found that it was given the Bulleid Black livery in February 1945 which it carried until it was eventually re-painted BR Green in November 1949. It is unique in never carrying Southern Malachite Green. You have to be a steam fan to be interested in this sort of thing! :D

Your right mate lot of folk now'er days are slow to say thank you me as well so here is mine now
Thank you and please continue your models, they are well worth downloading and using I thought
the Arthur's were excellent and have been used a lot.

I would like to see a Lord Nelson of the same standard as the Arthur's.

I agree Rick the models of the arthurs are great, and as for the Nelsons you know I have been working on one at the moment which is slowly getting there although I am currently having to do a rebuild of the wheels. Some new shots soon I hope.

Keep up the work with the Arthurs, the more southern stuff the better.

Dee,

I'm sorry you feel disheartned about people not responding to you about your fantasic steam loco's,you know what people are like to day quick to moan if you have the wrong type of rivits, but not complementing people for some great loco's and rolling stock.

ALL I CAN SAY IS THANKS,and please change your mind and release this Arthur especialy with it's history,it will look great on v2 of New Forrest route,

And could you do a Lord Nelson and or a WC/BB and oond last request an 700 0-6-0. frieght loco I remember them shunting the 2 yards at Hounslow, one was at Hounslow station the other was about a mile further on to wards Isleworth, and was a coal yard.

Once again don't lose faith and carry on the good work, especialy now msts2 has gone. I can see some great routes coming and they will need new steam loco's to run on them.

Michael

Thank you for the Brit's,9F,MN,and the Arthur's

Hi Dee,
I would like to second everything that Michael has said. There are many of us out here who don't have an artistic bone in our bodies, but get great enjoyment from the efforts of yourself and the other fine modellers. So please don't give up; we would all like to see more from you.

Regards,
Ged

Keep up the good work Danny and don't be disheartened.

There will always be someone who will appreciate all the hard work that you do. :D

BTW, Is there any sign of the Eastleigh Arthur with the watercart tender?

I can send you the one I made for the Paddlebox if you want, it only requires a wee bit of finishing off. :)

John.

PS. could I add a Lemaitre style chimney as a freight anim to your model, that is once, I figure out how to do it. :D

Thanks for all the support everyone, it's nice to know the work on these models is appreciated. What goes unnoticed is the testing and proving work that Kieran does to try and identify any faults shown up in the sim; in addition - on this particular version - Reg Furniss (refman) gave a lot of his time in trying to resolve an alpha fault, and it would be unfair if their efforts were to serve no purpose. So, on reflection, I'll upload this one probably later today.

I will do the oil-burner - but it will have to wait a few weeks as I have another project underway. I was going to do "Merlin", but if a Lemaitre chimney is preferred then I'll do "Linette" instead. This had the Lemaitre chimney and was fitted for oil burning from 9/47 to 10/48.

Michael, you've already got a LN (UKnut) and a 700 (me) to look forward to,
then following up on the Southern side of things the L1 (which will finally make it's debut this week or next) Z class, H16, G16 all in varying degrees of progress, there is also a few surprises (both Southern) which will surface quite soon that Danny knows of as do a few other's not sure if i should mention what what they are, or keep you guys wondering... none the less they are quite advanced.

Danny you already know my view on your models and i do agree with these guys you should continue uploading them, as there will be those that don't frequent the forums as much as most of us but readily download what's available. then theres those who do frequent the forums but don't really comment etc etc, really you can only judge models on their popularity by the download counts which for your models, range from 144 to 327 times they have been downloaded, which is damn good, then theres the part where you won't know how many times each of those people actually drive each model which will range vastly  so with all that said, your models are quite popular, and your getting requests which just shows people love your work, so don't give up faith mate, cause you always have my vote

Lastly, can i use that maunsell 3,500 tender attached to your black arthur as its looking better then my attempt.

Best Wishes one and all

Demon shadow,

Thanks for your information about you makeing a 700 and the G/H 16 if I'm right all 3 were used out of Feltham,I think the G16 and H16 were used on Inter regional transfer freight and the Z class tanks were Exmouth Junction Yard based.

Well I can use the first 3 on the Windsor line section of Dorset Coast along with marverlous 4 Subs 2 Hal's and 2Nols,I can remember the 4 Subs were stabled at Hounslow out side rush hour, the stabling point was on the Feltham side of Whitton Road railway bridge on the up side.

It's nice to see there is such a lot of interest in Southern Steam,as a lot of people think of the Southern being an Electric Railway.

I love you... :D Always thought the G16 and H16s were wonderful looking locomotives. And dee loving your working too, so your efforts are not going to waste!

We have certainly got some great southern stuff coming out now, looking forward to it all. The 700 i'm sure will be great, just hope that my Nelson comes up to scratch with the rest of the stuff. Look out for some pics of it being posted soon. Currently it is in the livery she is in at the moment, but i have lots of other liveries and versions I hope. Now that she is based at my local railway, i might get even more great references for her as well.

wba2uk: i fully agree with you there, first time i ever saw both the G16 and H16 classes i knew i had to have OO models of both i was only 12 at the time, they are some way of though as the Z has priority over them as it's more complete and the 700 comes after the Z or was that the LNER P1 i have to many projects to remember the priority list.

Richard: look for a thread i started probably page 2 or 3 of this forum for screenshots will have to update it this week with the latest shots of the models, of which there are some LNER some GWR and SR and LMS as for the surprise models in the works they are of SR, GWR and BR origin (BR being a proposed design but not the Standard 8F)

Michael, you are indeed correct they were mainly based at Feltham as far as i'm aware this also includes the Z class and W classes of which i do intend to build the W also and even a new schools class.

Best wishes

Mike

Some interesting looking locos there, you certainly have a way with the paintbrush, which is probably where my model falls down slightly. The L1 looks great as well as the southern tanks etc.
