Just Trains - Bristol T.M to Exeter S.D?

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Just Trains - Bristol T.M to Exeter S.D?

Post by SloopJonB »

Is there any news on when this will be finally finished? It's the only thing i've been waiting for, yet there seems to be little update on the Just Trains website.

Thanks.

Maybe we should just release rubbish half-finished stuff so we could rush it out and make a quick buck, without testing stuff and making sure it's as pefect as possible.

But for everyone else, who realises that a well made, well tested, and "ready when its ready" product is the only way to go, they'll surely understand the wait for products.

And in reply to the first poster asking about the route - don't have a release date for it yet as it's still in development. It's a big project, maybe more than should have been taken on as a first route, but one that we're hoping will see completion before too long. Won't give a date though as some people seem to get frustrated by a date that we can't meet - we can't win...

Thanks,

Simon

Maybe you shouldnt give us release dates if you cant stick to them?
Or maybe you shouldnt show pictures of rooling stock when thay have actually been tested and finished?

But then maybe i should shut up and not say anything?

I presume you've not seen my reply to you where you said about release dates the other day?

As for what we maybe should and maybe shouldn't do, I think (as we do it, and have done very well for a good few years) we know exactly what (and how) we should be doing things. But thanks for your comments.

Nope ive just read that post as i forgot i posted there.

If the sceneros are taking so long as you have given us a date maybe you could put the item on sale with out the scenero then release the scenero when its finished?

I would be quite happy with that.

But honestly you gave me a date of release rough date rough date as you say and that date went past with no further comment then you gave fred the second rough date that also went past wich causes forum outrage.

This happend with Snowsignals trainz paywere stuff on being showed the dates could never be kept so then he stopped showing pics completly till the item was finsiehd and onsale.

We wouldn't be happy with it, and neither would (the vast majority of) other people. We know that as we've asked people and we've got a good handle on the add-on business and what does and doesn't work. Trust me.

Sorry if you were outraged. I wasn't aware it'd caused general forum outrage, that must have slipped by me whilst I was busy working... Of course I could give, in good faith, the estimated relase date for the IWB, but if it slips for whatever reason (say we get heavy snow next week and it pushes us back a few days as not everyone could be in at work, or something else came up) then I presume that'd just frustrate you more. So as I've said before, we can't win... I think I'm starting to see where the outrage is actually... :drinking:

Why not be patient?

As with all add on packs, be it RS, MSTS etc they take time. And in most cases they run later than planned. It also relates to other things such as the overhaul/restoration of a steam locomotive, they dont run to schedule.

The idea of a rough date means nothing is set in stone to release it by that date. All it is is an estimate, nothing more, nothing less. As Simon has already said, JustTrains have been around for quite a while and know what they are doing, so instead of adding snide remarks about the company, try acting a bit more polite, then the team might feel they arnt wasting their time trying to create a great product.

The two phrases of "it'll be ready when it's ready" and "good things come to those who wait" come to mind ;)

Hi

A lot of Rail Simulator users are in need of New and Extra routes to add to their collection.
I have read there are such routes in the creation stages so I believe it only fair and right to give them time to perfect these. The end user can enjoy them and in so doing eliminate complaints.
We have had some good routes already, take for example the recently released updated route, "South Devon Banks".
A nice route indeed and its author, jetgriff, must have put in many hours creating this for the community. Well worth the wait what ever time it takes. If only I could create a route!

Regards
Mike

Simon, I fully endorse this approach and is surely the only way a commercial enterprise should go about their business, to which no apology is needed.

With such an extensive route and custom made content takes a great deal of time and effort. Hope its progressing nicely and will welcome its release as and When it is deemed ready.

I was just taking the South Devon Banks V3 route as far as Plymouth next week before uploading but when the new King loco came out I enjoyed giving it a blast doing the full banks from N Abbot to Summit that I uploaded early to give everyone a go at it. Will be in Plymouth by the end of the week and will then go on the other way towards Exeter, if the other route is not out by then I will go on to Bristol.

I must re-iterate that my initial post wasn't malicious at all. I haven't visited this forum for a while, have had money troubles of late and had to sell my very good graphics card. I managed to get hold of a 1600XT that actually does run RS fairly well, so was just a general question as to when one could expect to see this route on the shelves. I'm bored of the existing routes now y'see and I don't have the time to make my own. I am really excited about this route as it goes through Taunton and I have rode this route many times before.

Would be fair to say that we could expect to see this route published on or before Q4 2009, or is that too optimistic?

Does anybody know if any developers are planning to embark on a massive project for the West Coast Mainline?

Short answer: yes (you only need browse the forums..)

One thing I felt compelled to add is that the more massive the project, the more variables and uncertains involved, and the less likely you will be given an accurate release date. And even with smaller projects, these tend to be done within the authors' free time so it's unreasonable to expect them to give you an exact timeline for completion of content.

Cheers,
