sorry for bringing this back!

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

sorry for bringing this back!

Post by GavNormandale »

i noticed a thread on the building rolling stock section has been locked, in the end all just because someone asked how things were going, to me this seems such a harmless question but the forum police (not nessesary moderators) decide the poster was bang out of order for asking such an outrageous question.

i really cant see the problem with the question being asked, someone is interested in the content of the thread and as there has been no updates for a while simply asks, which is then followed by the condemnation of such a question and discusion follows, resulting in the thread being locked.

this isnt a dig a moderators or the forum, i understand the mod who locked it may have been worried about things getting out of control, now because of this if the creator of the content the thread was about picks up on his work again and decides to update his thread he is going to have to create a new thread.

i havent posted this to start any more flaming, i just feel that people using this forum should leave the moderating to the moderators, as posted.
This is a forum people will ask questions
there is no harm in this

cheers

I agree.

The recent correspondents showed no malice, disrespect or improper behaviour. After following the course of the thread, it looked as though most participants had agreed between themselves that there was little point in continuing.

If I were the original author, I think I would be pleased that people are still sufficiently interested in my work to post their views.

A disappointing and unseasonal end to a thread.

And it is exactly, for this kind of "policing" that I started my own forums. It's plainly obvious, and especially in RS at the moment, that questions will be asked in a long running thread.

I would suggest an ask once and leave it at that policy. If the author doesn't respond to an update request, there is little point in flooding the thread with further requests for updates.
I don't think I'd mind anyone asking me how the progress was going on any of my work if I hadn't posted for a while, and I would appreciate the fact that it shows people are interested. Just apply a little common sense and keep the thread on topic.

My own personal take on this is that some common sense should be applied. If a developer hasn't updated in many months and in some cases 11 months then chances are the project is very much on the back burner or will not reach completion.

Why shouldn't these old threads be dragged to top? Again my opinion, because you waste alot of people's time because others will then think further development has happened, when in fact, all that has happened is a bump. Why people who insist on doing this can't pm the developer to ask directly would save any gripes and show a level of common sense.

I agree to some extent that no new posts for 11 months probably means no progress for 11 months, but some of the comments directed at the people who were just curious in that thread were totally uncalled for. Biggest over-reaction I have seen for a long time.

One comment in particular springs to mind, which for the sake of all involved I will not repeat here. If I were in a few different people's shoes right now, I would be thinking about an apology.

Not nice stuff at this time of year, would have expected more from the usually friendly and supportive people on here :x

Are you refering to the 332 thread? If it is then this thread has not been locked? If it isnt then i have looked through the forum and cannot find any that have been locked? Please enlighten.

Cheers Gav, yes i see, it was all a bit of a grumble, perhaps if a thread like that one is deleted after 12 months if people cba to update the original thread, perhaps the mods could intervene here and pm the original poster and ascertain what the position is regarding their project as genuine interest from others is causing unnecassary upset?

Peace and goodwill to one another this festive time, happy christmas.
