Teesside oil

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Teesside oil

I'll be interested to see what response I get to this one:

The signal on the approach to Darlington was a real problem - and at the very end of a 1h 45m run that's what you don't want! One run it'd be green, another red but tabbed past, another red and 'permission denied' (but SPADed past anyway with no problems). This is deliberately a stinker of a scenario but I wanted to flag that if you get a troublesome red right at the end, it's okay to go past (but only if the 0635 ex-Darlington local, and the steam double header have both gone by!).

Phew! Now to finish off the 158 stopper from York to Newcastle, surprised no one else has uploaded a 158 scenario for Y - N yet...

One asset required is the Digital Traction freeware 20t BR brake van. However (I think) this is no longer on the DT site. Does anyone have the zip file for it, please? David.

Bob, Thanks for the link - much appreciated. And, as a complete aside and as someone from Darlo, looking forward very much to the completion of 'my local line'. David.

Hi Paul,

I have completed your 'Teesside Oil' Scenario and being a 'Steam' fan enjoyed it very much, this was after a lengthy session with 'KickStart' swopping the DT coaches that I didn't have for Sly's.

Starting a prototypical 'Steam' hauled Oil train on 'Icy' rails ( I had to use a fair bit of sand at times! ) and then gradually building up the speed to the recommended 45mph without too much wheel slipping proved quite a challenge.

It also has a nice touch at Thirsk, very good. I also enjoyed passing and being passed by trains of 'realistic' length, none of the usual 3 coach train stuff.

Just a hint to others, when approaching Darlington, if you get stopped by a Red signal, ensure you check the 2D map and 'manually' select the 'correct' Route right through the sidings to Siding 1 or the signal will not clear. When the correct Route has been selected the Signal will clear (unfortunately, the dreaded 'Dispatcher' does not always select the correct Route for you) and away you go.

Many thanks Paul for writing an excellent Scenario and sharing it with us, I hope others enjoy it as much as me, well done.

Hi Drogba11CFC,

None if you change out the DT coaching stock by exchanging with Sly's Coaches and RS 08 for say the 'Jinty' using 'Kickstart'. Takes a while to exchange them all but worth it in the end when you get to run this 'Steam' activity.

If you don't want to do that then the payware items you'll need are, the Digital Traction Mk1 steam era coaching stock and RSDL Class 08 add-ons as explained here:

Every attempt I've made to couple to the oil train has ended in derailment. I've stopped at siding 13, but no matter how slowly I try to hook up to the tankers, the train derails. I have auto--coupling enabled. Any help?

Nearly completed this one, and what a fantastic scenario.

Very atmospheric weather and a cold early start. Loved trackside views of the consist steaming out of the fog.

Heavy AI traffic - how do you get them all to run so close together?

Would love to try out any more you may wish to write.

Thanks

Fixed the derailment problem...now it won't load, just gives me a so-called "Pure virtual function call" every time I try. Any help?

Hi

When you attempt to couple up you can zoom in quite close to see the buffers just kiss and then try the Ctrl -Shift-C
Also keep the coupling speed as low as you can to avoid derailment.
Hope this is of some help to you.
