Re-installing Thames-Mersey

Post by ziggyshadowdust »

I'm trying to re-install Thames - Mersey but whilst I successfully installed the Globals and the Route, I'm having trouble installing the Stock and Activities. I click on 'Install Stock & Acts' and I get an error window.

I explored the CD and clicked setup in the STOCK folder and get an error message saying 'Data error (cycle redundancy check)'. I didn't think I need to install stock and acts, so I tried to run it using Train Store, but it won't let me as there is no valid activity in it.

What could I do? Thanks. :D

Reinstalling will have put all the activities into the route folder, and Trainstore won't know they are there. Run Trainstore, and store everything - then it should find the activities.

That's the thing. There are no activities. The only thing in the Activities folder of the Mersey route is a Readme file called '0' and inside it says DUMMY FILE.

I only managed to install Stock and Acts when my laptop was in 'Safe Mode'.

Are you running XP or Vista ?

I had this problem once a while back which i thought was something to do with the CD drive not reading the disc correctly. I managed to copy the whole CD to a folder on my hard disk called TMCD and then ran the installation routines from there, then the stock and activites installed ok. Might be worth trying that if you havent already.

It is indeed Vista. I'm running Windows Classic incase it helps the computer run just a little bit more smootly. I'll try that. Thanks. :D

I would suspect some dust or damage to the DVD.
Look for any signs of damage and carefully polish off any visible flaws. If there are defects visible then try some of the tips others have given . Try copying the stock file to your desktop first ,or somewhere else, and then copy and paste to Train Simulator. If you have two or more optical drives (Disc readers)try another. My favourite rescue involves a light spray with a furniture polish and polishing it off to a nice shine. It has worked for me once or twice. (no it won't cause permanent damage to the disc!)

The copying hasn't worked. It wouldn't let me copy the files. And I had previously washed the disc like a dinner plate (soap and water with a soft sponge). The disc is immaculate.

I'm also having problems running the YCR route too. After installing the route, a window comes up showing what files are copied. I've seen far too many 0 files copies, and the route won't run as a result.

Have you got all the default routes installed?
Did you install msts to the default location or have you installed it elsewhere - to a different drive for instance.?

Some versions of Windows dont have access to the xcopy dos command which is often used in batch files to copy files from the default routes to the new route. There is a workaround i believe - try searching for xcopy. I think you can test this by opening a command prompt window and typing xcopy /? If the help screen appears all is ok. Vista recommends using Robocopy instead :(
