Email Threat

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Email Threat

Post by trelawne »

I have received the following email, supposedly from ‘RS TrainSim’:-

‘We Do not Usually Send Newsletters, This is a One Off!
We have a Lot of people Signing up to the Forum for the Downloads, No Problem there However we Would like to have a Few posts from each user, If its to say thanks for the downloads, or for anything really, Right now no action will be taken but if the Problem Persists we Will have to start taking action, So all that I Ask is that you pop in every so often to say Hi or thanks or Whatever so that your Account does not say 0 Posts and to keep conversation around the forum. We Want to make our downloads available for everyone, But if this keeps happening, We may have to Limit the downloads.
Please don't make us do this!
Thanks very Much and we Hope to see you in the forum soon.
The RS-Trainsim Team’

I have not included the link that came with this email as I think the above is a hoax and that clicking it may lead to problems.
Has anyone else had a similar email?

Can you please PM me or another member of the moderator team that link please.

Also can you confirm if you think this came from the http://www.railsimulator.com site and not a 3rd party site. I am aware of some non-official forums getting fairly annoyed when people sign-up and don't post.

I have signed up at http://www.railsimulator.com and probably only posted 1 or 2 posts since I don't use RS much. If that is an official email from them then I find that outrageous. There are many more members here than who actually post - you can see that by looking at the membership list - a lot of people have joined and never posted. Even more read in visitor mode (which is not possible for all forum segments at http://www.railsimulator.com )

If that email has come from the site I strongly suspect it has (not http://www.railsimulator.com ) then I am not surprised in the slightest.
Kindest regards

I believe that it is from a 3rd party site not RSDL

Thanks John.

Now I have switched to Firefox and stopped massive numbers of windows opening I think I know which site is behind this and as I said "I am not the slightest bit surprised". We have had previously had to deal with some of the people behind that site.

I would reiterate what Matt has said many times - UKTS is not afraid of competition and we will not try to prevent people uploading their content wherever they want. Dave Corfield has generously uploaded Dorset Coast (and I believe Thames Mersey) to other sites so non-premium members have an easier time downloading it. Spread the content far and wide on legitimate sites - it is all good for the hobby.

UKTS do not send out emails like that to coerce people into posting on our forums.
Kindest regards
