Yorkshire Coast Track Error

Post by Chicane »

Hi all,ive just installed the yorkshire coast track and its constantly bringing up an error. its saying that the birdsong 2 wav file is broken. now i know theres been a few threads on this before and people have put in their 2 pence worth by trying to help others with the problem. Ive done everything that everyone has said to do and it wont install no matter what i do.ive even tried modifying the file and rectifying the file with winzip but to no avail, also tried deleting the file from the actual programme but still nothing works. What would help with this is the author of the files to rectify this problem and mend the file for people to enjoy this addon pack.I know the thread started 6 years ago but whats the point in spending time downloading files for them not to work,in the 6 years of people complaining i would have thought the file would have been fixed.any help on this would be appreciated.

Hi
Welcome to the forums.
I'm afraid though .... you haven't done everything that is required..... because if you had..... it would have worked.
Therefore the file(s) do not need fixing.
These files are spanned zip files... therefore to extract them you need a programme capable of reading them... its that simple.
Having said that I think the route is still available as a CD.

Hi again...right ive spent a good 3 hours messing around with this file and it appears i was doing something wrong, its loading up and putting in the route into the sim. The problem i have now is,its loading up the route,im getting the yorkshire coast screen then a quarter into loading it stops and gives me this error.

No extended shape data for asphaltplat20m 2000r.s
it then asks if you want to carry on with a yes/no answer. If you click yes then you get error message
failed to open shape file global/shapes asphaltplat20m 2000r.s
if you click no it simply goes back to your desktop screen.

i have downloaded everything that was required to get yorkshire coast to work,so is it now a problem with the global shapes? will i have to download the shape fixer? or is there some other file i need to fix this problem?
please help with this as its driving me mad lol....

You need the magnetic platform kits, it does tell you what you need to install in the readme.

like i said ive already installed the magnetic kits and everything else required... im getting the error when ive clicked on the yorkshire coast route,it starts loading with the yorkshire coast screen, loads about a quarter across the screen then stops and gives me the error above.its obviously a problem with the global/shapes file.

Sounds to me then like the platform kits havent been installed correctly. There are several sets - did you download and install them all. That error is definitely from the magnetic platform kit set.

What operating system are you using. If its Vista make sure the files are unblocked and the permissions on your Train Simulator are correct otherwise the installations will fail.

Hi
Its worth installing magnetic platforms to both the route and global shape folders.....as other routes will need them.
You may need to install the textures to global textures and the route textures..... but do not over write any that come with the route if prompted.

Little quote from the readme.
The Yorkshire Coast Route uses track work mostly based on early 20th Century 25 inch OS maps circa 1898-1912 so that long gone sidings can be incorporated. In fact some of these have remained in a disused state in reality for over a century, while others are long gone and been built over. Also used are NER Line Diagrams from around 1914 to 1935 where obtainable to help establish fine details of the branches. Further information about the branches modelled in the route is included within the route itself. As to whether the route is intended to be real or fictional I'll leave that for the user to decide!
I don't think any update is going to happen.

Glad you got it working, I was involved in the testing of the route, and even did an activity for it.

Hi, pleased you got it working. Just to confirm I've no plans to remove any of the track work at Whitby to make it how it is now and replace it with car parks and supermarkets!

The original purpose of the route was to build the Scarborough to Whitby line so it would mean deleting all of that to bring the route up to date apart from a couple of very short lengths that have been reinstated at two stations. To do as you suggest would make the route very bland with most of the sidings removed, even the Rillington to Pickering link that the NYMR and NYCC would like restoring!

A modern 'updated' version of the route would be something of a downgrade and given that Whitby now has no direct link to the Scarborough to York line (one has to approach via Middlesbrough) it probably wouldn't even appear on the route if I was to do an updated version of the modern routes around Scarborough. It is not viable to go to Whitby from Scarborough via the National Network and back in a single day any more.

If you like it the modern way at least you've got the real thing to look at, those that want to see how it was have the YCR!

As John says above,

You've got the best of both worlds. YCR as it stands and activities can be created for present day using the route as it stands, as if Beeching didn't happen.
