Failed to initialise activity manager error

This is a new one on me - maybe I've been lucky but for the first time in years, I've encountered a fatal error that prevents MSTS loading. A forum search has proved fruitless and Ihave to say I'm baffled by this one....

The error message is "failed to initialise activity manager", and it occurs whichever activity I try to run on any route on my system. I get the same error in explore mode.

Apart from installing a few new acts for various routes, the only fundamental change I've made to my installation in the past few weeks has been to apply the bin patch to the London & Port Stanley route, which is set up as a mini-route with its own Train.exe file, so I wouldn't have thought this could be the cause, particularly since the mini-routes on my system still work fine.

Has anyone experienced this before? Any advice appreciated guys...

Problem solved, thanks to John's (EasilyConfused's) first link to an old post from Laurie, which yielded the right answer - haven't yet figured out the exact cause but it was clearly something related to my installation of the bin patch to the L&PS mini-route.

A re-installation of the basic MS upgrade plus the bin patch did the trick. It's hard to see how it could have affect my main train.exe file but there you go - one of the many unexplained mysteries of MSTS I guess.

I think my post was a regurgitation of similar advice by Jon Bilton, so thanks to him for pointing us in the right place first I just happened to remember it Im glad someone still reads my old posts
