The same texture but different results

Post by vlado960 »

Hi,
See the picture above. On left-hand side is the screenshot from 3D Canvas and right-hand side is the screenshot from Rail Simulator. I'm used *.tga with alpha and BlendATexDiff shader. The same texture but different results. What's wrong?

Regards
Vlado

I solved the problem. If you are using a texture with translucency, it should be named with a "_nm" suffix so that Rail Simulator does not compress it. Otherwise this can result in artefacts in the translucency in Rail Simulator. That was my case.

Strange you should say that Vlado. I tried naming the texture for the glass of my 1938 cab windows with an _nm suffix at the end and it didn't make the slightest bit of difference. I had to actually edit the GeoPcDx file in the end to get it to display correctly.
What settings were you using for the texture in 3DC and what level of grey for the alpha channel.
Darren.

Interesting :-?
I had the same options except Translucency instead of Transparency. I wonder if that would make a difference to the level of alpha that gets through to the sim.

How do you name the texture with an _nm? Is it somewhere in Canvas or is it the filename?
I went for the hack approach as mentioned ot get my bus stops looking right but didn't know about the other 2settings".

It's the name of file that you use as texture. Eg nameoftexture_nm.tga

Edit the GeoPcDx file to solve this:
