Trainz and MSTS
How do other people rate MSTS and Trainz,I prefer MSTS but admit I have 6 months experience on MSTS and 6 days on Trainz, so I have to get used to it, I wonder how others compare the two and what you like about the sims. Both have good and irritating points, I like being able to move the cab views around more in Trainz and the chase views can be more varied, MSTS scores with it's steam content and activities are easy to put together.

I like 'em both.
I've had Train Sim since the end of June, and Trainz since November last year.
They're both fantastic and I use them both a lot.
I use Trainz more for route building because I can get my tiny head around it much easier, it's also better for my fictional ideas. Train Sim is where I go when I want some top notch realism from folk like Pat Dalton, Decapod, Tim Court and so forth. It's not that Trainz can't do realism - it definitely can - but right now, there's a lot more high quality stuff to be had from Train Sim
Matt.

I find the big trouble with Trainz is that it is 6-12 months behind MSTS and has very little to offer the UK fan. Remember when MSTS first came out, everybody was over the moon how good it was (I even went out and bought a new computer just to run it), then with no new quality routes and UK running stock, I and I expect others stared to get bored with it. Also the difficulty in creating routes does not help. Now with the new routes like MidEast, pro trains2 (I know its not UK), and just about all the UK stock you can manage MSTS is back on my machine with a bang, and loving it.
The same think happened with Trainz. Being able to produce your own routes (layouts) with ease, UK stock starting to trickle through, but the big disappointment was you could not save your progress in Driver mode. Then SP3 arrived and you could save, but all pre SP3 locos do not work, so you lost class 47, class 25 etc, then a patch came out for SP3 and we lost the save function, so I lost heart and do not run Trainz at all now.
With Ultimate Trainz out at xmas things may change and get better, but we are now in the same position as MSTS was, people waiting around for the influx of UK stock, which I thought would have been a lot faster with them already existing a 3D format one way or another.
So in another 6 months Trainz might be the big thing, but then again MSTS 2 might be out and everyone running that.

I agree entirely with what you say Geoff.
I bought Trainz last December.
During the year UK stuff was beginning to appear then with SP3 - SP3 patch - you can save - now you can't save , I lost interest especially as MSTS was delivering loads of UK stuff (mainly from this site).
Now UTC is arriving and I am going to wait this time before buying and see what happens.
regards
Harry
