I think it is Jon, I'm pretty sure there's one on the Swanage Add on.

Either way, Section 9 of the Forum Rules applies:
9) Offering to send or requesting that others send you copies of software or commercial add-ons, or the discussion of any form of law breaking activities is not permitted.

????

How did we get from one person asking a question, through another question in response, an unconfirmed opinion based on supposition to a posting of a forum rule which actually contains an erroneous statement (read it carefully)?

I don't really want to know.

My point is that this doesn't seem in the generally helpful spirit of the forums?

Surely we could at least confirm which M7 cabviews he's talking about?

Even if they are commercial, a more helpful stance would have been to point him at a source of the add-ons which he may be happy to buy? Once he has a legitamate copy he can then Alias to his hearts content. He could even upload a model with the aliasing files for those who owned the cab view. This has been done many times.

Hi Ash,

The bit up to "...or commercial" needs qualifying. Something like "contrary to the EULA or Read me, or commercial..." There is such a thing as shareware and it might be helpful to advise contact by PM or e-mail rather than on the forum for potential permission to use or alter files?

I just feel that a guy with 115 posts got "a bit of a slap" for asking a question. and that we could have helped him more :(

Geoff,

I see where you are coming from. However, I have no idea about what an M7 even is. So when I saw the suggestion the cabview might come from a commercial product I got concerned but Ash had already posted so I stayed out of it.

If you are aware of any freeware M7 cabs then please you could provide the links ? Or are you more interested in a debate with the moderators ?

By all means take a look at section 9 and PM me a differently worded version and I will discuss it with the rest of the moderator team - we want the rules to be as clear and understandable as possible - any assistance in this is welcomed from both yourself or any other member. We will listen to all reasonable suggestions.

The rule is worded as it is for good reasons - in the past we have had members asking for people to download stuff and send it to them by email since they did not want to wait in the queues and we have also had members asking for people to send them things like Conbuilder (full version) and other software that is not MSTS / RS addons but complete packages.
Kindest regards

I don't want a debate with the moderators. You have a job to do. Much of it is thankless..... BUT.

Nobody actually answered the guy's question in a very constructive way. There will always be those who pirate stuff and obviously that cannot be actively condoned but there are TWO commercial packs both with excellent models of M7's, both with cabs and still available. No one actually pointed that out.

It seems to be becoming a modern malaise that because there is wrongdoing ....EVERYBODY is a wrong doer?

If the requester has previously attempted to obtain copyrighted material that's different, but if not I just feel that we could have been more helpful.

Geoff.

BTW both listed below. Both excellent add-ons. Both worth the money IMO. A lot of work goes into the 3DTrainstuff cabs and they are always excellent. They're one of the few major add-on publishers for MSTS and as such we ought to support them. If there are good freeware cabs I've not looked. These are excellent so why look further :)

I can't see how anyone is misinterpreting this request - he didn't ask if an M7 cab is available, but for someone to send (i.e. give) it to him, and that breaks the rules of this forum.

Yes I certainly read it that way, but with my new 'diverse' head on :D , just asked the question to confirm.
If Pete had answered and confirmed, I would then have informed him of the rules.
Cheers

edit
I could offer as freeware
