Ruebelandbahn

Post by popol »

Hi

I don't think this new route has been annouced.
It's probably the best freeware German route. Far better than any previous creation and even payware!
It's a single track route, around 50 km I think. Part is non electrified, the other has seen test for 25 kV OH wires.
Trains and activities are available in the package.
Be careful, it has a different tsection.dat, so you have to install it not in your TS folder.

A few shots are available here : http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 39&t=87449

The route can be downloaded here :

Hallo!
An update has been released. Here's the link:
http://www.freeway-gmbh.com/include.php ... entid=1011
To avoid the problems some people had with the first installation, the safest way is to install the update to a temporary folder and then copy or shift the new files to their place depending on your installation.

Keep on steamin'!

On the Freeway forum I see a reaction about a problem with the activities. I would not install the update until I see a answer to the reaction.

OTTODAD did a translation of the Wupper 11 activities; it may be he's doing one for this route as well ... I'm not really sure.

What I do with all of my foreign language routes is to feed the .act files into Google Translate: http://translate.google.com/
The translations are, I think, pretty good considering it's just a machine doing the translating. Usually they are enough to get the basic idea across, from that point you have to experiment with the activity itself to see where the author intended for you to drive your train. I actually rather like this puzzle aspect; it turns a simple activity into something resembling an adventure game! :D

The update actually does fix this route, but there are a few wrinkles to the installation of both the route and the update that could potentially derail the unwary. First, Ruebelandbahn is a free-standing mini-route; do not install it to your routes folder of your main MSTS installation like you do for so many other routes. In this sense it's like Wayne Campbell's London & Port Stanley. Second, once you've installed Ruebelandbahn, you have to copy your train.exe and launcher.exe files into the main dir where you've installed Ruebelandbahn. Third, you have to have installed the BIN patch version 1.7 (or later, I use 1.8 and it works just fine) so that your train.exe has been updated.

The update listed above also requires a bit of handling, but nothing difficult. First, go to where you've installed Ruebelandbahn and delete the TRAINS/TRAINSET folder. Then install the update by executing it to some temp dir on your hard drive, no the Ruebelandbahn folder. Then manually copy the files, from dir-to-dir, from the temp location to where you have Ruebelandbahn installed, overwriting when called for. Then ...

Voila! Be prepared to be flabbergasted by the beauty of this route. It's set in the Harz mountains of Germany, and the scenery is just gorgeous. In fact, I'd go so far to say that it is the equal, and in many cases, the better, of payware routes costing lots of pounds/euros/dollars! :D
