Problem with Big Fun Run Version 4

Post by stephenholmes »

Hi all
I have downloaded the RPK file of version 4 of the Big Fun Run
When I run Railsimulator the route is listed on the screen.
However once I click free roam the sim hangs on the loading screen.
I have never installed previous versions of this route is there something I've missed?
I did attempt e-mailing Jay the author of the route but unfortunately using the e-mail listed it gets returned?
Thanks in advance for help with this.
I did take the precaution of backing up my Rail Sim Folder.
Kind regards Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Have you run it through Mike's RS Tools (or have you still got problems with running it) to see if you have any missing Assetts ?

Hi good evening Rob
No I havn't run it through the RS tools because I am not quite sure if they are installed correctly
They are in C:program files/rstools is this the correct default location.
Also I havn't got the dev tools installed in Rail Simulator.
I only have the items on the main rail sim disc upgraded and patched to MK2
I am still having trouble on the loading screen with this route.
As I have previously stated the route is listed on available routes but hangs as soon as I click the free roam button?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Kind regards Stephen.

Hi again,
I am not quite sure if they are installed correctly

I'm on my Laptop tonight that does not have RS installed so can't check the above, but from memory I'd say yes that is right. :-?

If I remember right RSTools comes with a self-installer so as long as you don't change anything it will install to the correct place. Just ensure that you have a serz.exe is in your Windows/System 32 folder, make all RS folders Read/Write and point RSTools to your RS folder and it should run OK.

Yes let us know how you get on with RSTools and The Big Fun Run Route.

Unfortunately I have not downloaded this Route, so perhaps someone else who has it installed can step in and comment on the problems you are experiencing with it. :-?
Also I havn't got the dev tools installed in Rail Simulator.
I'd recommend that you install these so you have the full editing capabilities, also download the 'Developers Documents', that explain how to do loads of things like Editing, Scenario's, etc.

Hi Rob back again
When I open RS Tools and click on make all files read and write I receive this message Runtime Error 75 path/file access
also if I click tools check route/scenarios this results in runtime error 9 subscript out of range.
I'm not sure what is going on here.
Needless to say that the RS tool checker is not able to function to check my set up.
Thanks once again for help with this on going problem.
Kind regards Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Ensure you read the 'ReadMe.txt' file supplied with RS Tools and ensure that you do everything it tells you to do.

I've also found this that Mike Simpson wrote this in another Post:
Users with Scripting Errors may need to turn on MS Scripting on their PC. This can be done by going to the Desktop Start/Run box and entering:-

regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll
You could try it.

I will study the read me carefully.
The RS TOOL TMB does seem a useful utility.
Although some of it seems written for those with lots of computer know how.

Hi Stephen

The error you get with R S Tools sounds as though you have not told the program where your copy of RS is located.

Under Options\Select RS Path go to the location of your RailSim.exe file, select this and click 'open'. Next time you try something with the tools, it will know where to look.
With the developer tools loaded the route needs to be changed to RailSimEditor.exe.

Hi all
I just wanted to update you on progress ref Big Fun Run.
Having contacted Jay on his website and learning there is a version 5 available there I gave that a try.
However when trying to open the folder a message came up saying this file contains corrupt data.
Cutting a long story short I kept Jay in the picture as to progress and he suggested trying his Wombles Route instead
This installed perfectly and I have been exploring this wonderful route.
We have arrived at a conclusion and that is that my computer is not really ideal for gaming.
It is a business pc and consequently more suited to browsing the internet than running games etc.
There is no suggestion here that the Big Fun Run is not a decent route plenty of people are using it and enjoying it etc.
I am going to save my pennies and build a pc from scratch, Jay has given advice about this subject.
One valuable lesson I have learned is to be careful about ordering a pc on the internet etc.
In closing I will just add that when I purchased my pc I was led to believe it could be upgraded with a new graphics card.
However I discovered yesterday that the power supply is only 230 Watts having removed the cover.
This is totally inadequate as I had purchased a new graphics card a GE FORCE 9600GT this requires a minimum 450 watt power supply.
One other thing to be aware of is on some pc cases there is a switch that looks like a type of latch this has now caused a sinister warning to appear whenever I boot my pc it says Warning you have removed the chassis cover on this pc.
Anyway I just wanted to update you on my progress etc.
Kind regards Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Regarding the message you are getting on start up. This is because your computer's motherboard is set up to have "chassis intrusion" switched on.

You can reset this or turn it off in your computer's BIOS.

To do this you must press either F2 or Del as your computer is booting up, this will take you into the BIOS settings.

On my computer the settings to change the chassis intrusion setting are in a section called "H/W Monitor" but yours may be elsewhere.

Once you have found the right section you can then alter the settings from "enabled" to either "reset or "disabled".

If you then press F10 to save these settings and reboot the message should have disappeared.

I hope this helps.

Regards

Hi Keith
Thanks for this info
Because my pc was purchased mail order I havn't actually got the motherboards manual.
All that was supplied with my pc (which is only one week old) is a simple fold out piece of paper showing the various connections on the computer itself.
As I have previously mentioned I wasn't best pleased to discover such a poor rating of power supply.
I had no choice but to remove the case cover to actually see the rating of the power supply.
There were 2 stickers on the chassis saying removal of the chassis cover invalidates the warranty on your ACER computer.
I have written a letter of complaint about this because in my opinion at some point most computer owners will need to replace components such as installing a new DVD Drive or CD writer etc or in my case fitting a new graphics card.
This computer has a built in graphics card which again I found quite surprising however there are 2 AGP slots and a PCI express slot on the motherboard.
Thanks to all who have offered help and advice it is appreciated
Kind regards Stephen.
