Trainstore Problem?

Post by ThomasTelford »

Hi Folks. :D

I wonder if anyone could help me please.I think the Trainstore or some part of my Trainsim has stopped working,What is happening is this. After awhile of driving a train the sim stops working either i get the message 'Shape file not loaded' or when i next couple up to some wagons i get the message 'Activity ended Train derailed' or something along those lines if you pardon the pun. :-?
Everything loads ok and this apears to be the only problem that i am aware of.
Apart from the default routes that i have the only ones that have been added are Themas~Mersey.EastMids UK 1.4.5,Dorest Coast V3 and one called the Paddington to Penzance.

Kindest reagrds Thomas Telford. :fadein:

Hi Thomas,
I am sorry to answer your query with a question.

Is this on all activities and how are you using TrainStore?

Your 'after a while' comment points to memory overload.

Hi Doug. :D

Thanks for you help.I'm not very good with computers and stuff so i'll be honest with you and say that i'm not too sure what you mean when you say how are you using Trainstore.
With regards to your coment on it being a memory thing you might be onto the right 'line' there as i was trying a 'freeroam' drive but with a large amount of rolling stock (around 350 wagons etc) and i am now guessing that this is just far too much for my computer or any computer for that matter.(Is there a limit or does it depend on the stock/detail on the wagons/ loco's etc?)I'm not 100% sure if it's affecting any other of the activity's,over the next few days when time permits i'll have a look at some of them and see what happens.

Thanks once again~Regards Dominik aka Thomas Telford. :fadein:

Thomas,

When you open TrainStore you are given the option at the top left hand of choosing "Easy Train Store" or "Classic Train Store"
If you click on the Easy tab, which is recommended for any large route, you are given a choice of routes. You select one and then in the top right hand corner you are given the choice "Run an Activity" or "Explore the Route"
When you have chosen to run an activity you are left with one more choice - which Activity to run from a iist of activities.

But if you choose "Explore the Route" you must make more selections.
First you must select a locomotive from one of several Lists - "All Locos" is one, " Used in Route Locos " is another. You select a loco and then in the box "Consist" you may find that you can have a choice of Consists - sometimes there is only one. Choose the Consist and then select in turn the "Starting Point" and the "Heading Towards"
If you don't get a little confirmation to click on in the box at the bottom right, saying "RUN" or "Explore", then TrainStore is telling you that something in what you have chosen has a flaw and the activity will not run.

If all this sounds complicated it is straightforward in practice.

If you choose "Classic Train Store" then your choices are which Routes you want to store and which you want to play with.
This gives you freedom to select a route and an activity or change your mind at will, but for a complicated route or with more than one route, loading of Train Sim will take much longer and you may have problems trying to run some activities

For the most complex of routes such as Dorset Coast you may have problems unless you choose just one single activity using Train Store "Easy" mode.

That's Ok.

All Tony says in his post above is exactly what I meant.

Even TrainStore can 'unstore' too much for some computers.

A good habit, when in Classic TrainStore, is to, 'Unstore Everything'. After this is complete. Select 'Routes' and click Store selected Routes.

It is then a simple matter of selecting the Route+Activity you want to run.
This has the same effect as Easy TrainStore but may acheive it diferently.

Also a memory cleaner might free up RAM.

I use wincleaner.com (I think it is still free to use)

Derailing Stock? Coupling speeds?
