White Mountains

Post by navyman1 »

Hi All,
This one for RSDerek I think.

I trying to build a route of North Wales starting of around Llandudno Jct and all the mountains around me are all white with the ground around them green.

Is it possible to get rid of them as they look horrible.

Cheers

Two threads going on over here about just this subject.

Think "fog color and fog distances". With a little bit of distant mountain color thrown in.

Id be interested to hear about your progress with the NW route. I'm building one as well. I've based it on Bangor and have so far reached Conwy, Holyhead, Afonwen and Llangefni.

Hi Llew,

Can you show anything that you've done on the North Wales route.?
Any sign of it being finished?

Hi John

Here are some pics of my route as requested. I don't think I'll ever finish it as I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I keep going back over it to change or improve it because I'm not happy with it. At the moment I'm working on the Amlwch branch but at the same time trying to upgrade all the track using the IOW track and improving my original attempts at including scenery items:

Bangor Station

Approaching Holyhead (RTZ factory)

The lack of stock in the sidings is as a mystery to me - they disappeared overnight the other day for no apparent reason - I'm still in the process of replacing them.

Wow Llew the route's looking really good particually Bangor station - I was there only last weekend - University open day. If you were to continue the route over to Anglesey you could go as far as Hollyhead and the Bromine extraction plant at Amlwch, this would certainly provide plenty of scope for both passenger and freight operations with some beautiful scenic views of those welsh mountains... I mean even if they do appear white you could just pretend they're snow covered - they usuall are!

Here is a helpful website I stumbled across a few weeks back which shows some great detailed view of the rail scene of North Wales around the 1970's, its certainly a fitting route for the current diesels in production for RS... keep up the good work route-building!

Hope it helps,

Hi Llew,

Looking very good indeed and I am looking forward to this being released..... :D

Bangor is very impressive as is Menai Tube as it was before the fire.

Keep up the great work.

Thanks guys for your comments. I've been a bit selective with my pictures and there is still a lot of work I need to do on the route as far as the "in between bits" are concerned. Where does one stop however? Anglesey is easy as you can't go any further or you'll end up in the sea! I've nearly got as far as Conwy so do I go on to Chester, Llandudno, Blaenau Ffestiniog? I'd like to but.................... I don't know if the route will ever be suitable as a download as there's so much more work to do on it. I am really encouraged by your comments however. I forgot to include the following two pics.

Llew, this looks excellent stuff especially with all that custom content. Given the lack of prototypical steam era routes so far, you should seriously consider an early release, even if it's in stages with just a small part of the route fully detailed initially. Better I think to complete at least some of what you have already started before expanding the scope. My Ilfracombe route is only 15 miles long, but even that is a big project if you want to have a lot of custom content and are a bit of a perfectionist.

Thanks for your feedback - yes it's worth considering a release in stages. I'm finding that my route building gets better with practice and with others releasing excellent scenery add-ons which I can use. The downside of this is that I then go back to my earlier work and redo it!!!

Hi Llew

I would certainly like a trip from Bangor to Holyhead but its up to you as the author how and what gets released, so long as you are happy with it please share - it must be taking ages to do the scenery but North Wales is a really beau place so I can't blame you for wanting to go back over things, please consider a staged release... no pressure though. :D
