Mk3 upgrade wishes

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

I agree that improvements on the signaling and AI dispatching would be great and are importment. But I'm confident that Derek and his team will make the most inticipated improvement. It might take time and a lot of biscuits though...

But there's another thing that (in my eyses) would improve the 'reality-feel' of the sim. Can RDSL make a connection between the weather system and the characters on the platform? I mean it would be nice of the clothes of the people on the platform would fit the weather and season. Now we see women in summerdresses in the rain or snow. It would be nice to see people wear (rain)coats and maybe even use a umbrella in the rain. Or some thick clothes in the winter. I can imagine that there could be made some charactersets for different weather types.

Well it's just an idea.

Greetings,

While the full link to the weather system sounds rather challenging, maybe something simple to this end is possible already, but we do not have the documentation.

a) What about winter textures? Are they possible for figures, just like for other objects? If so, it would not be a solution to rain in summer, but you could set all your rain scenarios in spring or autumn, all your snow scenarios in winter, and those with nice weather in summer, and with some reskinning, your characters are dressed find, within the constraints of reskinning.

b) Platforms can spawn different amounts of people at different times of the day. I have no idea whether all the platforms spawn people from the same set, or if you can link each platform to a specific set. This would be very nice for lines from the city to a rural area, with different styles of passengers waiting at different regions. If this does work, then you can overlay two logical platforms, one spawns people in warm cloths in the morning, the other spawns lightly clothed people in the afternoon. Again, you would have to adjust the weather to the passenger pattern.

A possibility to override the auto-path, giving more control to scenario builders.

to be able to edit manually the times in the stop at instructions as well as using the percentage score.

thanks

And a lot more different road vehicles too, i mean i know Ford are popular but blinkin eck! And how about being able to copy instructions you have placed on a loco so if you want to change the motive power you can? And more different folk too? And heres a mad one, when it rains it would be nice to see surfaces darken and become a bit more reflective particularly on platforms and maybe walls :o Would this even be possible? Yeah and when it does rain lets see the peeps putting their coats on or popping the umbrella's open    I mean this is England :D

In my opinion you should have some of the commands that trainz has.

1 A list of locos so you can jump to any loco on the route.

2 Send locos to different destinations on the route.

3 couple up to coaches, wagons and other locos and decouple.

I was hopeing that all of the above commands were going to be included when the sim came out a big dissapointment as it would of made the simulator more enjoyable to play

I have gone back to playing trainz sims because railsimulator is very slow at getting things done and not as enjoyable and easy to use as trainz.
If railsimulator doe's not buck it's ideas up it may be soon forgotten when trainsimulator 2 and trainz 9 comes out.
why have two patches when you could of joined the two together and made one and how many patches are we going to have before this sim is working properly

Hi

I don't use RailSim extensively myself but nevertheless, I think you'll find that items 1 & 2 from your list are already easily possible.

Hi

With so many assets now available for the simulation and another 100 in the vegetation 'pocket money' add on expected soon, it would be nice to have improved asset management options.

With default routes there is not much of a problem as unless you tick to include additional developers, you will only be presented with the default assets related to that route. In building your own route, however, or extending default routes, you are in danger of having asset lists that are so long that it is difficult to find what you want unless you know its exact name and can jump to it.

It would be nice to be able to build up a favourites list using just those assets you are likely to use frequently or require to be readily accessible from the whole range of developers without actually moving the files out of the developer folders.

In addition, access to thumbnail images would be useful, rather like the thumbnail views that can be selected in standard Windows folders.

This may be something that RSDL can develop or perhaps this is a project for a third party.

A small thing as I have not had enough in depth use yet, but I would prefer an ability at some stage to map my own keys.. and have consisitancy in using the mouse wheel ie (why can we only use it the map).. leave it for upgrade 10 though, concentrate on ways to help people get the content going this to me looks a winner..

I believe you can change the mapping of the keyboard but not from within game. I dont know how to do it but you would need to download the "InputMappers.zip" file from the RSDL website and use it with the blueprints editor I believe.

Two that come to mind currently:
More realistic steam chuff animation. What a difference this makes - see Trainz Classics 3.
Rolling stock sitting properly on the track on gradients.

I would like to see the route selection list displayed in alphabetical order, like the assets lists, rather than in installation order.

Because it's very easy to install a large number of routes, it would also be nice to have some sort of folder facility (similar to Windows Explorer) so that you could have, for example, folders for Narrow Gauge, British Steam, British Diesel, German, or whatever you wish to let you organise your routes.

Not exactly railway I know, but the GUI matters too and the RSDL people might like to take a break from fixing railway issues.
