Even better, hanging out the window arm akimbo, basher style!!smarty2 wrote: Hi, I disagree with you, there are times when i just want to be a "passenger" nowt wrong with that is there, i made passenger activities in MSTS using several routes which a train driver would never do, i gave it a holiday theme using the great eastern route down to weymouth using the dorset coast route, i still had to drive the train which was a pain and i felt detracted from the theme and spirit of the activity, if it was implemented in RS you don't have to use it do you? But i bet there are quite a few who would. But the question that is going begging Ted is why then have a passenger view at all?

I never tried the passenger view myself, but if you still have to drive the train from the coach, that would be most weird.
I fully support the idea of being a passenger. Actually, with the power of scenery presentation of KRS, it would certainly win followers. But not if you have to worry about signals and speed limits while looking out of the window.

Don't forget the alarms too, you can't hear them from the passenger seat!!

RE/Passenger view.
I'm sure something like this is already available in OpenBVE,when in passenger view, you get a mini cab display/hud in bottom right of screen where most controls are visible,i.e speedo, brake gauges ect.I dont know if it displays signal info as well.It all depends on how easy it is to write into the code.

You can have everything up in passenger view as if you are driving, only you won't hear the AWS if it goes off.tads1970 wrote:RE/Passenger view.

Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
for me it would have to be a buzzer in the cab of the hst like in the class 221 so you can get a buzz from the TM after loading at a station. and no driver in rear PC when driving front one.

Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
The point is fella's, i dont want controls to drive the train if i am in passenger mode
Like they used to say in the BR adverts years ago "let the train take the strain" But at least as i suspected there is interest in such an option
And besides i would be very worried if a member of the train crew said "oi come on matey why aren't you driving! But i don't want to! Well that's no excuse, just make sure you depress the driver vigilance every 20 seconds or so, and watch out for aws and tps alarms too! But but.

Hi Mart and all,
Live and let live, everyone has different wishes and all are genuinely valid. What you seem to need in a Passenger View is to be able to ride in and look out from AI trains. It would also be all the better if you could have scenarios without any driven train in it.
Okay, I have no problem with you being provided with that facility. What I would like then is to be able to download an Upgrade or Add On and have the option of EXCLUDING any new facility that I do not want and will not use.
I am thinking in terms of the capacity of my computer and the time it would take to load a scenario. My old laptop is now three years old, and runs RailSim very well, and after reading all the problems some of you guys have with top of the range PCs and Nvidia graphics cards, I don't want to be compelled to buy a new computer just to run the latest whopper of a Rail Sim! I have been very lucky to have bought a laptop that handles RS without any problems (and that was before RS was released), and I see it as a great risk to spend a lot of money in trying to buy another PC and not be sure that it would run RS in as good a way.
I have come to terms with cooperating with the despatcher and not fighting him/her, although I do look forward to any improvements in that direction. But I'm not going to be waiting for Mk3, I 'm enjoying RS now just as it is!
regards Ted.

Hi Ted,
That's a good idea making features selectable, as you say it would obviate any extra resources needed by peoples machines

Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
Now that the "announcement", effectively of a new version of RailSim this summer, has been made can I ask that someone from RSDL says whether or not there will any more free patches to the existing release? Despite what we may have been led, or allowed, to believe in the past my assumption is that there won't be, so don't be afraid of disappointing me
For those that have not yet seen it the announcement is up on the home page of the official RailSim site.

Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
Don't know if you guys can remember RSDL had a brain storming meeting with Kuju, probably last summer or autumn. After which they have probably decided on their current strategy of a new platform rather than fixing the unfixable.
This thread has, however, served a useful purpose in that the RS guys have taken on board what we'd like to see in future developments. I'm very relieved to now know that RS has a stable future as the investment has clearly been made by the people who are chasing the same things that we are.

Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
I don't think Kuju are involved with RSDL anymore it seems, reading from a locked post on the subject in the last two posts, which is good news. Since RS is based on the old MSTS Engine thanks to Kuju, better graphical data but still problems with the RAM usage, read an early review of the product and it states that RAM usage is still a problem. With the systems we all are using they're shouldn't be any problems, nothings perfect but still GPUs are much better these days.
I hope Railworks is quality after this thread has been running for a while now. From the image next to the Rail Sim logo on the main website it looks more detailed just from looking at that

Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
What led you to this conclusion? FWIW, and aside from some keyboard commands, RS is as far removed from MSTS as if had been developed by a separate company.JunGRail wrote:Since RS is based on the old MSTS Engine thanks to Kuju

Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
Upgrade wishes seem academic, now that Tim Gatland has stated that there will be no more patches: http://www.railsimulator.com/en/node/5990 . Under the circumstances, this thread appears to have gone its distance, so I'm locking it.
