Lord Nelson

Here is a project i have been working on for far to long now that is slowly beginning to come to fruition. Still a lot of detailing work etc to do but it is now really looking the part. Once i have it complete in this version it will likely appear in the many other guises the class wore throughout it's lifetime. Help has been given during the construction of this model from a member of ERPS who undertook the restoration on the loco at Eastleigh so i was overwhelmed with great reference pics.

Hope you think it looks right and that i am doing a class not yet seen in MSTS some justice.

I have models of both Lord Duncan and Lord Rodney. I can't recall where I got them from now but I think Rodney may be at Train-sim.com. Nevertheless, I entirely agree that this new one is superb and a welcome addition to the Southern steam stock.

This is great news - a decent Lord Nelson has been high on my wish list since previously mooted in the 'Neville's N' thread- after a lengthy period of keen anticipation I had assumed this project must have been abandoned so it's good to see it's ongoing. Without wanting to seem too greedy will a BR liveried Nelson be close behind?

That looks excellent, Richard - it will complement existing stock very well indeed.

[edit] Lords Duncan and Rodney are indeed over at train-sim.com, built by Norman Walker, who has also built some King Arthurs, Peppercorns, wagons, etc.

Thanks or all the comments guys it has taken a long time to get to this stage due to many other commitments. As the loco has been built in the condition she is in now it will take really only a repaint to get her into BR livery. I would like to model other members of the class than 850 but i don't have access to any other nameplates if anybody knows how i could find some it would be much appreciated. Still quite an amount of detailing etc to do but i certainly feel it looks the part now. I have a number of references so will probably do them in original condition, with and without smoke deflectors etc and maybe even 857 Lord Howe with the large boiler.

...so when I get a decent MSTS computer up and running again... i will want to set up Dorset Coast and have it running alongside those nice emu's that appeared not so long ago.

Is anyone working on some Mansell corridor stock to go with it in SR days?

Richard: On the off-chance that you haven't already come across it, there's a book entitled 'The Book of the Lord Nelson 4-6-0s', by Richard Derry (publisher: Irwell Press, ISBN: 1-903266-59-)9, cited at http://www.semgonline.com/steam/lnclass_dat.html. There also appear to be two 'Photographic Accompaniment' books; all three of the above are listed at http://www.irwellpress.co.uk/acatalog/c ... ILWAY.html. One of those may have some useful pictures of nameplates and other details?

Thanks for that, rather perversley i have the two photographic accompaniments but not the original book, though i am hoping to get it at some point. Anyhow how would you stand using copyrighted material from such publications anyway?

My take on the copyright issue (I work in publishing) is that you should write to the publishers if you wish to reproduce any image in any form, stating the extent of material you wish to reproduce and for what purpose you wish to reproduce it. As long as you have no plans to profit commercially by it, there will almost certainly be no problem about this - but the copyright holder has the final say and you should have their permission.

It includes detailed information on class variations, liveries, namesplates (including photos) etc. In fact, the entire series is pretty good, covering as it does the Schools, Merchant Navy and King Arthur classes and well as the A4s, Black 5s...

Just a quick note to say that work is still continuuing with this model despite the recent release of another LN and i feel i am now in the final stretch getting the model together. The tender is 95% complete and textured and i am just sorting out details on the main loco itself. I hope to post a few shots in a couple of days.

Hope I am posting this on the right thread.
I downloaded 850/30850 a few weeks ago and have just got round to loading it into my trainset.
Sadly, allthough the SR 850 Loco and tender work just fine. I am unable to get the BR tender
to work.
I get Failed to open shape file trains\trainset\DR_BR_LN_30850\DR_SR_LN_TExtras.s
I have re downloaded from UKTS both files 20109 and the patch 20134 but it makes no difference.
The loco 30850 like the SR 850 is excellent but obviously the BR version with a SR Tender or with no tender
looks silly. Can anyone help please.

I'm awaiting an update on progress with this new version of the nelson with great anticipation. The recently released nelson was covered in a previous thread in the general discussion forum 27nov - if i remember correctly for the DR_BR_LN_30850 to work it needs the DR_BR_LN_TExtras file renamed as DR_SR_LN_TExtras
