Greenford Branch

I make the station to be at 51.5161, -0.33013, but that doesn't line up in game.

Is that known and has anyone who has attempted to expand (or is doing so) got a work around for it?

I'd like to add the little route up and on from Drayton Green, but I doubt I'll get much further than the tunnel between it and Castle Bar Park, as I have no gradient profile or knowledge of the line or area.

It just seems such a short little line, that it shouldn't be too hard to do and just gives a little addition to the mainline, for say, taking the train from Greenford and switching trains at Paddington to go on down to Oxford or where ever.

A little update:



I've remodelled the Plasser & Theurer site slightly, but using what I can make out from Google Earth.

Similiarly, it's how I'm attempting to build the route north, so everything will probably look wrong and the line won't have any gradients.

Flipping between Google Earth and RS, is a slow process.

I'm just really surprised that no expansions of the default routes have been made available and wonder if this is down to the Latitudes and Longitudes being different, as it's mostly making things "look right", as opposed to being accurately placed.

Well, most of what's in the screenshot is already in the game

Drayton Green is off a junction between Hanwell and West Ealing.

If you look at the junction in the game, you'll see the site for the station already exists, but it's in a "background" area.

I like the idea, creates somewhere to make good use of the 165 rather than just using it on HST grounds

I've just learnt how to create decals and started filling in buildings along the branch, as far as South Greenford.

I'd have laid the track that far too, if only I knew a rough gradient for it, as it seems to go downhill, but it's hard to tell if the embankments go up or down eitherside of the track - or if there are embankments at all...



As I was searching for information, I came across this website. Does anyone know if they still use semaphore signals?

The clump of trees in the foreground, is actually a river (I found out via looking at photos on Flikr - another useful tool for building a route in a place you've never been!)

I'll change that at some stage, but right now, my main worry is the gradient, as you might be able to see from this second screenshot.



The bridge in the foreground, is the bridge at Castle Bar Park, looking down towards South Greenford.

The track is currently on the level, but the DEM data drops away quite rapidly.

Used to know the route, but it was a few years ago.

most of the line from Drayton Green to Castle Bar is on an embankment, line speed used to be 15mph, and it really was that bumpy.

From South Greenford to Greenford you start to clime, there is quite a slope to get up to Greenford.

I've re-laid 0.7 miles of track as 'level' now, and will then make a guess past South Greenford as there seems to be no clear way to tell what the heights of the track at Greenford is.

Unless someone has gradients for the former mainline which runs past and down to Old Oak Common?

Despite spending a few hours on it yesterday, it's hardly noticable - epsecially when the decals are removed.

Still, here's a shot looking north westerly towards Greenford, from Castle Bar Park.



Oh and I found a book with the gradients for the Old Oak Common Junction to Northolt Junction, so if I feel like an extra challenge, I might try and add that too.

Thats because your doing everything so accurately which is brilliant, so please don't stop building like that as it makes the route so much better, and when lots of scenery does eventually appear it will look amazing

Just remember thats why its taking so long when your feeling down about it, and visualize how good it will look once completed

As you can see, the track is mostly laid. A few bits here and there to lay (oh.. and a little matter of Greenford station).

Only a few signals placed and it's not something I'm knowledgable on, so I'm guessing and trying to use the Birds Eye views on some online maps to work out their placement.

I used to know a site that used to show basic top down plan views for most of the uk's railways, it showed Signals, Signal boxes, PW boxes....


If only i could remember what the site was,

It was a .Gov website, i remember that much
