What would you like to see in a Rail Simulator upgrade?

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Not really bothered what we get, but would like to see.

Dynamic Smoke/ Exhaust/ steam
Light glow on the Semaphores
Real Time weathering? so the amount of bug splats vary according to the speed you are traveling.
2 tone horns
and finialy, Working Level crossings.

Chris.

Btw: Still love RS and can finialy go on it again since finnishing college :D
Rising Storm -Name is in the credits :D - To Do scenario, where you go along at 50mph in a Pendo? Who would play it?
Anyone want to help in Play Testing future Rising Storm/ Ro2 Maps? If so please PM me.

I'd like to see some higher volume for the sound of rolling stock in speed.
Also, I'd like the GEVO units on the Cajon Pass to have a 8-notch throttle as they have in the real world.

Functioning headlight beams.
Make the undo button functional when working with gradients.
fix the track drawing issue.
errrr some other stuff that i cant think of at the moment
Um, what do you mean by a proper 8 notch sound system? The sped up sounds supply this effect sufficiently in most cases.

Already possible. When selecting a loco, a box on the right hand side appears, and it contains a section where you can enter a number.
I can't see this section, just a box telling me how much fuel to put in the engine.

Hi all.

Not a big one this really, but when coupling up , as well as seeing the couplings join, why not the brake pipes too? And in the case of coupling two '66's together, the multiple working cables joining between the loco's, like on Trainz? I think it would just finish of the already stunning look of the traction and rolling stock.

Cheers,

Likewise, I've not come across a box that allows for loco numbering. :-?

I'd like to see better track sounds, when crossing points
More of a (I'll have to compare here) BVE feel when going round corners with slight bounciness/tilting
Signal light glow

I'm fairly new to rail sim.. but enjoying it none the less. Although even on slightly lower graphics settings in game and okay framerates I do get a few annoying stutters.

Perhaps I have it wrong where it is, but I'm reasonably sure there is a loco number thing in RS.

I was thinking of this also and it slipped my mind.

One query regarding BVE i have. I have been testing it out but could not get it to run more than 5 FPS. However putting that aside for now, is the rolling stock in BVE static only? From all the videos i have seen of BVE i dont think i have seen any stock move.

From my experience of BVE only the player stock moves and all other stock looks like cardboard cut outes. Having said that, BVE has the best sounds that I've heard of any sim that I've tried. :D

I have 1 more request.

Its called platform asset recognition?

Its were say i put a hst on the track yea but i havnt botherd useing the platform markers the train will load up passengers like in Trainz and i can see the distance from platform to platrorm with out haveing anykind of markers or anything?
This could be possoble by renameing the object say a signal box then the computer will automatically tell you the distance of the object.

Ummm next is a small box were you can control points like Msts yes i know how to use the G button and the map also.

How about a mile counter? :o

Better signalling & AI. In fact a complete overhaul so it actually works like proper signalling.
Get rid of Blueprints.
Get rid of track rules.
Restore offsets for track pieces and make them actually work.
Fix the problem drawing checkrails at junctions.
Copy and paste for terrain textures.
All terrain textures in the public domain available for use in any route.
Object copy and paste needs to place level on terrain, i.e. no reselect. Rotate feature to assist in randomising. Also needs to select by type, not everything under the cursor.
Better system for placing water (decals are stupid/horrible).
Terrain snap needs to work on the specific lofted item, not everything in range.
Easier method of linking odd bits of track, i.e. flexible splines.
Thumbnails and descriptive names for items in Route Editor.
Fix the track sound.
Fix the train sound so you get different internal/external effects.

Can probably think of a few more but that will do for starters...

Can I please make a vote on this list to "keep blueprints". I think they're an excellent idea with so much (so far un-tapped) potential.
bigvern wrote:Get rid of track rules.
Same for track rules, surely they should be kept, rather than get rid of them? What specifically do you want removing from the track rules or doing differently? What's the alternative to track rules?

Can already be done as this picture illustrates:

Its up to the modeller to make their own couplings if they so desire that can join hoses etc. This example has the hook drop down, safety chains join, brake hoses join and brake tap position change from closed to open. All easily accomplished.
