Opening 'Beginners Guide' Download
I have just downloaded Norman Ross's three files for creating a simple scenario and a beginners guide to Rail Simulator. What programme do you use to open the .odt file. I have extracted winzip the file onto my desktop and I have tried to open it with 'adobe reader' as it is meant to be a pdf file, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

.odt is an OpenOffice file format (ODT stands for Open Document Text). A quick google search shows several free viewers for .odt files, the first of which is this one: http://www.officeviewers.com/. I haven't used any of these, but it looks like this should do the trick for you.

You can download these guides from http://thezone-reloaded.co.uk/miscellaneous.html as pdf files, but the scenarios don't appear to be included so keep the ones you already have.

Congratulations to Norman Ross for taking the time to prepare these three tutorials, especially the two on scenarios. I am sure they will be of great assistance to those who have had difficulties with aspects of the program.
The tutorial suggests two means of adding adding stations to the Pick-up Passengers panel. There is a third way, which is actually easier and faster that the other two and that is to switch to the 2D view, keeping the panel pinned open. You can them zoom in on the stations where you want to pick up passengers, click on the green '+' sign and then click on the green platform marker that you want to stop at and it will be automatically added to the panel list. You can also use the 2D view to fill the 'stop at destination' and the final destination in the Driver panel. Due, I believe, to a minor bug in the program, sometimes after clicking on the green platform marker in 2D view, the zoom function freezes, but this is easily resolved by switching to the normal 3D view and then back to 2D. The program will remember where you were on the 2D map. I believe that this functionality was added in the Mk1 up-grade which I expect most users will have installed.

Thw zoom will also work again if after selecting the marker you click on the + sign again. Then you can zoom out and move to the next marker but then you need to click the + sign to add the next one.moranb wrote: Due, I believe, to a minor bug in the program, sometimes after clicking on the green platform marker in 2D view, the zoom function freezes, but this is easily resolved by switching to the normal 3D view and then back to 2D. Re: Opening 'Beginners Guide' Download
Yes, thanks for the manuals - will come in very handy.
I've printed them off in work today and had a quick browse through.
One thing, is it only possible to couple to a static consist? I'll explain.....
I want to do an activity which starts off by waiting in my Class 08 at Paddington for a couple of minutes whilst watching a 47 hauled service arrive, what I then want to do is manouvre my way onto the back of the coaches (with the 47 detached), haul them away - the 47 will then move forward, allowing me to shunt the carriages back into the station, I detach and move away, and the 47 will then move forward to couple onto the front of the carriages.
Older simmers may remember this kind of thing happening at terminals in days gone by - happy days!!
Is the above possible in RS or is that just too advanced at the minute?
