As the class 57 is actually a re-engineered class 47, would it be possible to
paint the default class 47 as a class 57? According to my understanding the
changes between these two classes are mostly inside (new engine, new cab).
I know that the newer 57s have a diffrerent looking light system than 47, but
at least we would have some kind of 57 to run...

yes, provided you switch out the sulzer sounds for EMD 645 sounds, there are some not too great 645 sounds included with Cajon pass you could use if you dont want to make your own.

The exhausts are different too. On a 57 there is a big steel palte with 2 slots in it, as a pose to the single offset hole on a 47. Regarding sounds, yes 57s have 645s, but the sound nothing like any other 645 I've heard. Whereas others ying and make the ground shake (class 59, SD40s etc) the 57s seem to scream a lot! I would guess it's down to the exhaust and alternator fitted
