What Trainspotters can do on stations (the NR rules)

Post by david3232 »

I'd just come back from Eastleigh in boiling wheather and decided to stop at Claphamon platform 9 for a couple of pics, before heading home. Until a member of staff wondered what we were doing there, got sent to the station manager, then told us to go to Waterloo to get permission. I knew he was wrong, so we tested it ( ), got there and the station master at Clapha, got a bollocking :D .

So anyway you might want to print this URL off and carry it around to show WHO is in the right and carry it around.

P.S I do not know if this url has been posted before.

It also says on the same page that you should let the staff of the station know what you are doing, otherwise you may be stopped by the british transport police (and they could at worst arrest your or take your camera away)

This page is probably a little better :)

I think the key part is the final paragraph:
A key priority for Train Operators is to ensure the safety of their passengers and staff. You may very occasionally be asked by station staff to move to another part of the station or to leave the station altogether. Station staff should be happy to explain why this is necessary and if you are travelling on by train they may advise you to remain in the normal waiting areas with other passengers. If this occurs, please do so with goodwill as staff have many things to consider including the safety and security of all passengers and are authorised to use judgement in this regard.
A sad fact, but young people in groups of one or more ( :-? ) seem to have a reputation for being troublemakers. This reputation can be a barrier, but being polite and cooperative can help to change this misconception....

Remember they are just guidlines though, and at the end of the day, staff have the right and authority to move you on if you do not hold a valid ticket.

Also remember that allthough NR own the stations, they lease them to the TOCs who may well have their own set of guidlines.
