PS. When I was installing it, on both occasions, it 'froze (not respoding), and I had to reinsert the disc several times.

Can you copy the files off the CD onto your HD and run the installers from there?

If that throws up error messages; I would raise a support ticket (http://support.atomic-systems.com/) to request a replacement.

I too had some problems when installing Dorset Coast from the UKTS CD, one possible problem was that the CD was slightly warped and hence the CD reader seemed to struggle on both my XP laptop and my Vista laptop. Eventually I acquired a second CD and though this was also very slightly warped I was able to install it. I did mange to copy all the CD files and place them on one of my external HDs for future use.

Alec

PS I assume that permissions are not a potential problem?

PPS It is possible that the warping is caused by differential movement between the actual CD and the label; i.e the adhesive is not very "elastic", but there is no evidence to actually support this hypothesis.

Well, after a wait of a few days, Atomic Systems sent me a free replacement (Thank you!).
I ran it and yet again it will not work because of those blasted error messages re vehicles.

I can see no way forward with this route now and can only hope that a new, higher version will eventually be introduced which will erradicate the problems.
In the meantime, ALL other routes (inc. Briscard) are running 100% amd Dorset is consigned to my desk drawer.

Hi Alan

The problem is not with the version of the route, since the vast majority of other members have successfully got it to work, including me. I think the answer lies elsewhere.

I'm going to suggest something that may sound drastic but which may just solve your problems once and for all. Before I go any further, can you please confirm exactly where your MSTS folders are installed on your hard drive?

Once you come back to me, I'm quite happy to go through things one thing at a time, at your own pace, until we get there. :)

Ash, How very kind.
If you want to deal with me directly, I'm on ad1938ATbtinternet.com.

My MSTS is on C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games. Someone suggested that i put them elsewhere but I wasn't sure of what would happen to later downloads. Would they go to the new location or try to find the above site.
Any way, I'd greatly apprecaite your help.

Alan

Could I suggest we proceed here, as I know that many other members have similar problems and discussing the procedures we need to take would help others in the future?

If not, then I'm happy to proceed via private e-mail exchange.

OK. If at any time you are unsure about what I'm saying, please let me know. The procedures I'm about to list will involve copying MSTS, then uninstalling it using your original MSTS disks, then re-installing to a different location, and then finally copying your files over to this new installation. We can pause at any time (as it may take a while). If you follow these instructions to the letter, the process will be risk-free. :)

First step - Open up Windows Explorer and go to your C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games folder. Right click your mouse on the Train Simulator folder and select COPY. Depending on the size of your MSTS installation, this may take some time.

Once that's done, move up the Windows Explorer window until you see your C: drive. Right-click on C: and select PASTE. This again will take some time.

Please let me know if any of this seems confusing or come back to me here when you have done all of that.

Alan - One thing I should have mentioned is that if you use Train Store, please unstore all items before proceeding. Thanks to Doug Lee for reminding me.

If you've already copied everything without doing this, no problem, just let me know - there's a way around it.

Ash,
I did unstore everything in Train Store before i did anything else and at the moment the 'Paste' option is in progress.
As it's several Gb large, as expected, it is taking a while!

Alan - that's good news!

Apologies for not having considered the Train Store situation. I'm trying to approach this methodically but my logic let me down.

Come back here when all is copied.

OK. Firstly, please confirm that your original copy of MSTS is still there at C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator.

The next thing to do is to re-name the copy that you have just made.

Using Windows Explorer, right click on the newly-copied Train Simulator folder in your C: drive, and select RENAME.

re-name the folder RAIN SIMULATOR.

Again, this may take some time - let me know when it's done.

By this time, you should have your original MSTS setup in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games folder, and also another folder called Rain Simulator in C:\Rain Simulator

Please confirm that both folders are now present and named as above.

Seemed a bit too easy, that one, Ash!
However it's done and both files still exist. One is RAIN SIMULATOR, the other in Programme Files X86
