Oh dear. This thread seems to have died.

Perhaps it's my fault. I do appear to have a talent for killing-off threads.
I think I'll change my username to Threadie Kruger!

no it's not dead, just slow moving, as is work on the EALR.

Hi

It does take some time to build and develop a route so as long as Robert keeps updating us on progress in this thread, I will check it out often.

Not dead, just reflecting the time it takes to build a route.

Ok, that sounds fair enough... here is an update of progress then.

The little line inside the manour house has been laid and the interior detail upgraded appropreatly. also many of the trees along the EALR have been upgraded from "middle" distance trees to "near" distance trees, excluding those around either end of the line where prossor requirements are already high. the number of weeds along the length of the line has been increased, a car park installed next to the sheep halt near Dixons Green Dockyard and other suggestions of things to make the new version worth downloading would be apprecieated.

also the real world garden version of the EALR, the final layer of wall is being built and the track laid upon it... so this is slowing down the progress of the virtual EALR because I am spending time mixing cement and screwing track onto the wall... that and... other things...

My apologies if my post came across as being critical. It wasn't meant to be.
I thought I might have put you off with my suggestion.

Best wishes,

Hi Robert

RSDL have uploaded some more vegetation to their main site which looks quite good, particularly in and around a garden. Also, you can obtain some more plants from the German Rail Simulator site.

I have found in building my route that too much vegetation affects the frame rates significantly. I am now making much more use of the 3D textures and in particular the Bare Grass which close up has a lot of embedded vegetation and looks particularly good. If you use vegetation, it is better to use the larger blocks such as the large Bramble patch and the large Gorse patch.

No need to apologise Michael. It really does take a long time to build a route and sometimes there is not much that is new to show on a regular basis.

with the exemption of the gorse bushes I always place the biggest block of vegetation I can. But I find the key to good bushes is to place at least 2 different kinds of bushes in more or less the same place... and yes textures are good.

btw, what is the web address for the german rail sim thing u mentioned?

there has been an interesting development... it seems RS is not a fan of circular tracks. if you spawn off of the circular loop and then drive onto the circle the game crashes (every time and the same distance away from the loop) . any suggestions?

another update... since RS hates loops (hope no one is planning to create the circle line for the london underground, because RS crashes whenever you try to join a circular loop) I have made the manour house route an out and back afair, which actually makes the journy longer, so it shouldnt be much longer before this version is released.

EALR will not be released as v2.3 instead it will be released as V3 this is because significant changes have been made. the forrest has been revamped, upping the detail level conciderabley, which has also been done in Leonard's Lea... both of which have now gained sidings.

the manour house now has a track for fun, and generally more objects have been placed on the route and the detail level increased. more needs to be done, however there will be 2 new activities to look forward to as well as a much prittier view out of the window.

inspired by those little leaflets for the kids they sometimes hand out (which list things to spot on the train journy and you tick them off as you go) I intend to create one of these leaflets for the EALR and include it in the download just for fun, and yes I will make an answer sheet avalable... but it will be as a seperate downloadable file.

V2 is already out... and I have made so dramatic an impact upon the way the line looks I can no longer call it V2.whatever... it is going to be released as V3 very soon. All I need to do is to finish the acompanying documentation.

V3 will be the final version of the route, and includes new sidings, a run around section of track at the Y point (added for a new senario), a 2ft gauge track within the mansion, and much much more detail all round... in some places the difference in detail is nearly as dramatic as the change between V1 and V2...

I will try to get it released for Christmas.
