Big hill SW of Radstock

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Big hill SW of Radstock

Post by gwgardner2 »

I cannot make it up the hill west/southwest of Radstock, on the Bath-templecombe route, without stopping a couple of times to build up steam.

I have the brakes in the running position, at 19%. I have blowers and dampers on (I can't discern any use of steam by those, but they do seem to keep steam generation/temp up). Ejector off. But I can't find that sweetspot with the reverser and regulator, to keep steam generation up and retain any speed, even a crawl.

Am I doing something wrong?

Brakes should be 4%. What engine and train are you having problems with?

Have you tried using the automatic fireman?

It's the 2-8-0, not sure the name. It's the Delivery Day scenario, the player train.

I actually had to stop and steam up 5 times on the long climb.

I didn't have any problems with that one, but I was probably using intermediate controls at the time, and auto-firing. All that means is that the engine will definitely pull up that slope, there are no clever tricks required.

My suggestion would be to turn auto-firing on and see what sort of regulator and cut-off settings you need to climb the hill, without having to worry about water level and firing rate.
