If I could build routes I'd build this one...

Post by passedcleaner »

...London Paddington to Didcot and Newbury, set in the late 80s/early 90s. Including the Thames Valley branches to Henley, Marlow, Windsor and Greenford.

We've got all the stock - Blue/Grey and IC Exec HSTs, NSE 47s, Mk1 and 2 coaches, NSE 117 units, 101s, 121s, Thumpers, 421/423 units for the bays at Reading, LUL stock for Ealing Broadway - you name it its there.

Imagine two hours' trainspotting activity at, say, Maidenhead, in the middle of the day. You'd see...

Seven HSTs - three for Bristol (including one to Weston-s-Mare), two for Swansea, one for Cardiff.
Another HST for Penzance
A large-logo Class 47 on a semi-fast express for Exeter and Torbay or fast to Plymouth
Two Paddington to Oxford expresses, one a Class 47, the other a Class 50.
Another express for Worcester via Oxford, probably 50-hauled.
Four NSE DMU units, either going to Reading or terminating at Maidenhead, made up of 101, 117 and 121 vehicles
The branch shuttle for Marlow, probably a 121 or 122 unit.
A LOT of freight, 33s, 37s, 47s, 50s, 56s, 60s.

And anything else you could think of! (And of course, all of that going the other way as well  )

Unfortunately I don't have the time, skill or RAM power to create the route, let alone the resources. But it was nice to dream for a while :) If I could, I would!

I see from the EB website that Crossrail links Redditch and Litchfield. This is quite a long route; by my reckoning it is about 100 miles from Redditch to Litchfield, which is in Hampshire. Lichfield, in Staffordshire is closer.
And how do you spell "adheasion"?

Well - that's how Kuju spelt 'adhesion' in the MSTS engine files, so the English language may be changing in front of our eyes.

I have just contacted Europeanbahn about the spelling mistake for Lichfield. Apparently, even the local Highways department errected a new road sign spelt Litchfield, which had to be replaced with the correct spelling. It is surprising how many people spell Lichfield with a 't' in it.

Bit like the number of people who spell 'Stechford' with an extra 't' :) ... and 'Berkhamsted' with an unwanted 'p' ... and 'Hemel Hempstead' with an 'a' missing ... guess who
