I've found the bell

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

I've found the bell

Post by ewsjo »

Title says it all. Just done a quick check of the forums, and couldn't see anyone else posting this. I haven't had chance to check the SD40, but in the ES44-AC, turn to your left, and click the round yellow button (below sand). The train will then begin making a mightily annoying clanging noise! There doesn't seem to be a keyboard press for it, and annoying though it is, its satisfying to know the US stock does have it. :D
Ding ding ding ding......... :D

cheers

you probably want to install the bell fix from the train-sim file library
search for NAINPUTB.ZIP
then download the my horn sounds (excuse my shameless self promotion hehehe) that come with a new bell, the KRS default sounds like a damn cow bell.
http://uslw.net/content/members/nikos/E ... orn_v2.zip
http://uslw.net/content/members/nikos/SD40_horn.zip
then download the new engine sounds, do NOT copy over the cab .bin files from the new soundpack as that will make the bell revert back to the default.

there now things should be sounding a bit better, dont want you guys getting the wrong impression about out trains 8)

because its rather annoying to have to get in the cab and find that little bell button, plus the SD40-2 does not even have a bell button, only the ES44. After installing the fix just hit the B key to turn the bell on and shift-B to turn it off.

So to be fair, the 'fix' is actually a key change, as the B key already does something else. So you would loose the present functionality to get the Bell on the B key.

If the SD40-2 doesnt have a bell button then why put a fix in for it so it doesnt sound like a swiss cow bell??? I didnt even know there was one modelled on there, or am i getting confused with all these technical like numbers for these yank locos? damn wish you hadnt said now, i am going to be drawn to it now and not be able to resist myself having a tinkle

if i remember correctly the B key originally put the sun visors down in the cab mode, the "fix" (key change) reasigns the visors to U. i dont think you lose anything with the fix, dont see what your objection to the fix is Adam, the fix has stopped alot of complaining about the bell not working.
Real SD40-2's have bells, like every other US loco as mandated by the FRA. i dont know why a bell button wasnt put in there in the first place, mustve gotten forgoten like the Dynamics :-?
My new sounds replace the bell on both units, i got a bit lazy so both locos have a electronic bell which isnt quite accurate for a SD40-2 (better than a cow bell  ) but im going to mess around with the sound files this weekend to try and create a seperate sound folder for each SD40-2 as it will be rather dull and boring if they all have the same horn.
The UP units should have a Leslie RS3-L, a PM220 (sounds pretty much the same) or a K5LA (which is what mine is)
The BNSF can have anything from a leslie S3-L, a S3K to a nathan K5LA
BN should have a leslie S3L
ATSF a Leslie S3K or possibly a Nathan P5
the IC's should have a Nathan P3.
quite a bit of variety as you can see :)

I definately stand corrected! I wasnt aware the change saved the functionality by moving it to key U :)

Looks like the Dynamic Brake issue got sidestepped again.
