3D Canvas will NOT install PLEASE HELP

Post by Eurostar »

I have purchased 3D Canvas Pro to create stuff for KRS. However, 3 different versions will NOT install, and I get an error. The error is as follows:- 'Error 1904. Module D:\Program Files (x86) 3DCanvas7\Plugins ImportExport\ImagineOB.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147467259, and when I choose 'Continue' a long list of other dll's fail to register? I have tried various ways to install, and solve the problem through Amabilis website with no success. I have contacted Amabilis support, and I am waiting for a solution. I spent £44.29 for this software, and it will NOT install! The OS is Vista x64 and XPx64 (dual boot). Canvas will not install on XP either. My PC is working fine and Vista is running smoothly. ANY HELP PLEASE!

The following is from the readme file which accompanies the latest version 7.1.20. As you are having difficulties in installing in the first instance you may not have read this file. It may or may not be of help but might point you in the right direction.
3D Canvas(tm) 7.1.2

3D Canvas is a freeware real-time 3D modeling and animation tool
that incorporates a drag-and-drop approach to 3D modeling.

Complex models can be constructed from simple 3D primitives,
or created using 3D Canvas' Object Building Tools.

Creating an animated scene is as simple as positioning
the objects within your scene for each point in time in
your animation. 3D Canvas will ensure that the resulting
animation runs smoothly. No complicated scene timelines
are required. Your animation can be stepped through a
frame at a time, viewed in real-time, or recorded to a
Video (AVI) file so that you can distribute your creation.

Minimum System Requirements
---------------------------

Microsoft Windows Vista/XP/2000
DirectX 9
16 MB video card, with a minimum resolution of 800x600

Installation
------------

To install 3D Canvas double-click the 3DCanvas Windows Installer file
provided.

If double-clicking the 3DCanvas Windows Installer file does not
install 3D Canvas you will need to follow this procedure:

1) Select "Run" from the Start Menu
2) Type the following in the "Open" entry box:
msiexec /i "path\3DCanvas.msi"
where "path" is the location of the 3D Canvas installation file.
3) Click "OK"

If you receive error 1904 "3dcsg.dll failed to register" you will need to
download the latest version of Microsoft's DirectX which is available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeus ... efault.asp

To install 3D Canvas for all users of a Windows XP computer:

1) Logon as an administrator
2) Select "Run" from the Start Menu
3) Type the following in the "Open" entry box:
msiexec /i "path\3DCanvas.msi" ALLUSERS="2"
where "path" is the location of the 3D Canvas installation file.
4) Click "OK", and follow the installation instructions
5) Run 3D Canvas. 3D Canvas will make a number of registry entries needed
for the next step.
6) Run Regedit using the Start menu's "Run" function.
7) Right click on the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Amabilis\3D Canvas"
and select "Permissions" from the popup menu.
8) Select "Users" and click the "Allow-Full Control" check box.
9) click "OK"

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PREVIOUS USERS OF 3D CANVAS:

Previous users must remember to uninstall the previous
version of 3D Canvas prior to installation of a new version.

Please note that beginning with 3D Canvas 7.1.1.1 the train related features of
3D Canvas are disabled by default, since they are not used by the majority of
3D Canvas Pro users. To enable these features:

o) Select Options... from the Tools menu.
o) Click the Misc. tab.
o) Check Enable Trainworks Features
o) Close and re-open 3D Canvas Pro

Note that when this feature is enabled an alternate "extras" download is available
on the Help menu that includes sample models specifically for people modelling trains.

I had a similar problem when I tried to install to the "programs" file on the hard drive containing my operating system.

As I have another drive where I installed MSTS I tried installing it there and it worked without a problem.

I doubleclicked on the " 3D canvas7.msi" installer and directed the install to the "programs" folder on the other drive.

I also paused my anti-virus and firewall protection during the install as this often interferes with the registration of.dll files.

I run Vista 64 Home Premium.

Hope this helps.

I have tried all of that. Disabled Anti-Virus and Firewall, and tried installing to another drive. I have spent hours trying to get 3DCanvas installed and I have just about given up, so I have lost £44.29!!!

The fact that you're having problems installing on both Vista and XP make me suspicious that the installer might be corrupted in some way. I've never had any problems installing 3DC on either Vista or XP.

Have you tried downloading a fresh copy of the installer??

And when installing on Vista, are you installing signed in as an Administrator? Failing to register a plugin might be Vista's security getting in the way.

Do you have UAC activated? This is necessary to use Canvas.

It does sound as if canvas is not registering correctly. I've had this happen myself, but follwing the readme instructions (as posted earlier by John) worked for me.

Have you posted the problem on the Amabilis forum. Richard Borsheim stated on his forum, last week, that he was having problems accessing his emails and so the forum may be quicker.

Cheers,
Kevin

in your Vista install , it may be worth right clicking the installer and selecting run as administrator, we get a lot of issues at work similar to yours and that solves most of them.

hope it helps

Now Installed!

Post by Eurostar »

I have now got 3DCanvas installed. I turned off User Account Control (UAC) and 3DCanvas installed OK, then turned UAC back on. You must have UAC enabled to use 3DCanvas and other programs. Why UAC upset the installation of 3DCanvas is a mystery. I can now get on with some 3D Modelling. Thanks for all the responses and help.

I have turned of UAC, but nothing works. It still won't install! The link in the "ReadMe" for 3D canvas pro takes me to a page where I am not sure where to go from next to get 3dcsg.dll or what ever it is. Have I wasted a lot of money, or is there something else? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have I wasted a lot of money
No! 3DCanvas is an inexpensive, easy to use, powerful 3D graphics package.
is there something else?
Hard one to answer, as the question is unclear. Another 3Dgraphics package. Yes. But I think your question relates to getting 3DC installed.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shouting is not going to get you anywhere!

As you've not given any clues as to what you've tried...other than "I have turned off UAC", I'll have to start from the beginning.

Having a downloaded version of the 3DC installer:
1) Go to the User account controller in Conrtol panel and ensure your user is set as an Administrator
2) Turn off the UAC
3) Reboot your computer
4) Install 3DC
5) Turn UAC back on
6) Reboot your computer
7) Run 3DC.

Try this sequence, and report back on this thread how you get on. Please don't just say "Tried that. It doesn't work."....describe what you've done and exactly what is going wrong.

You were right in thinking that I was talking about getting 3D canvas pro instaled when I said "is there anything else", but sadly what u said didn't work; I was an adminastrator, and did disable my UAC. Then I rebooted my computer, and tried to re-install 3D canvas pro, but got same problem (3Dcsg.dll would not register). Thanks for the advise anyway. I don't think this info will help, but I am running Vista 32-bit.
