What's with all the kettles?
No disrespect to those clever chaps who have made all these new locos for RS (I notice another one has appeared on UKTS today) but is there a reason why they are all kettles??
I was hoping we might have seen a diesel out by now. I know the 08 is coming but it seems strange how the private developers can make loads of kettles but no diesels yet, just wondered if there was a reason like they're easier or something??
Out of interest do the new kettles come with custom cabs / sounds or are they default RS versions?

Re: What's with all the kettles?
At the moment the pug is the only thing I have ready for RS...No diesels. Plus by the looks of it these locos are the hardest to do, with the steam effects and cab controls, etc...jimmyshand wrote:No disrespect to those clever chaps who have made all these new locos for RS (I notice another one has appeared on UKTS today) but is there a reason why they are all kettles??

Also better to start small.

Re: What's with all the kettles?
Whilst Im a modern diesel man through and through, I cant help but be amazed by the quality of the work that these talented people are producing, kettles or not. I only wish I had the time, patience and ability of these guys. I had a quick go at reskinng the 47 into DRS compass when the tutorial was written and to be honest, the local primary school wouldnt even had put it on their walls. But as im a unit driver on a daily basis, all I can do is offer as much technical reference as I can with regards to 14x,15x and 175s. You certainly wont be seeing any loco builds from me. Not unless you want a bloody good laff!
Thoroughly looking forward to Dereks 08 and 37, but the day I see a filthy, noisy, weathered 60 rolling out of Didcot ill be a happy driver!

Ahh, there are diesels in the works, though. Have a look at the thread on the forthcoming 158, the Digital Traction website, promising a 20, 25, and 40, the various projects to make a class 60, and, of course, the forthcoming 37 and 101 from RSDL - it seems that the steam people were just quicker off the mark.

Re: What's with all the kettles?
Why would anyone build diesels, these are just biscuit tins on wheels, whereas kettles really look, smell, sound alive and are built of real solid stuff, not tinplate.

Biscuit tins on wheels? So that's why RSDerek is building so many diesels...mikesimpson wrote:Why would anyone build diesels, these are just biscuit tins on wheels, whereas kettles really look, smell, sound alive and are built of real solid stuff, not tinplate.

Oh yeah, and more diesels/electrics woo! But very well done to all those who have made outstanding steam locomotives so far
